The interesting thing is the latest OVA showed that Tenchi is causing problems by NOT marrying his harem.

Specifically, that Washu, Ryoko and Mihoshi are in limbo in the Masaki family, and that they were not invited to major social events. They get an entirely separate table in a different part of the building.

Sasami and Ayeka, being Tenchi's aunts, actually already are part of the family and get a seat at the table. But the other women are still outsiders.

Ryoko herself even got downgraded, she is now "just" Professor Washu's daughter.

This is despite the fact that she is the future head wife. Because no matter how important she is to Tenchi, as long as they haven't tied the knot she isn't a Masaki. Tenchi really need to give his harem some legitimacy. (His official escuse is that he isn't old enough to legally allowed to marry by Earth laws. All because time had stopped moving since last season while the audience got older.)
