Fate's basic premise is indeed more engaging but it's been milked to the death to the point where it's just being used to shit out endless waifus/husbandos with chuuni designs while going through wikipedia pages. The thing that I would have never guessed from just seeing Kaleid Liner, or reading the wiki's truncated description of it, is that before Luvia knows Rin's name, the two get along MORE than well - they're praising each other like it's a contest, Luvia offers to let Rin live in one of the 28 rooms she rented for herself, and basically they're stopping just short of sucking face. Only when Luvia hears the Tohsaka name does she completely flip her shit, starts calling all Japanese subhuman, rips up Rin's recommendation letter, bodyslams her, etc. It's not "hatred at first sight", it's a violent 180 from "let's be best friends forever and maybe scissor a little bit" to "DIE BITCH DIE".
