The fad died after a combination of Twilight killing any interest in unaffiliated people, and a combo of Monogatari and Hellsing Ultimate giving us pretty much the max potential of modern vampire anime. But fads go in cycles, so just wait a while more and it will probably come back.

You know, in the modern era it feels like it'd be a lot easier for a vampire to remain "stealth" if they just had a harem of women with differing menstrual cycles so she can get her blood by going down on them. The whole neck-biting thing is old hat and leaves obvious marks.
