The animation looked pretty fine for most of the episode, you'd actually have to cherrypick to find bad animation this season actually. It's been a lot more consistently good in comparison to season 1 which had so much QUALITY.

Hopefully the blurays fix some of the more jarring instances of it, if they do this will be quite a fun season to rewatch. I went in expecting it to be like season 1 with pretty bad pacing and a rather aimless story but I got the exact opposite, they did really well shifting the attention to focus on actually interesting characters.

I'd argue against that honestly, this ep remains more as an outlier in terms of bad animation but it's balanced by having some of the most beautiful artwork we've seen in the Ymir flashback. Every episode has had a pretty generous amount of great animation, straight from episode 1 onwards. Only one I can think of that might have had animations that weren't pure sakuga all the time were episodes 3, 9 and 10. Episode 7 had an absolute abundance of brilliant animation and I'm pretty damn certain the next 2 episodes will have a hell of a lot of sakuga too since it's the Charge chapter.

The animation in this show is consistently better than all of season 1, they have very few weak moments like the one you mentioned, that last only a couple of seconds, compared to extremely detailed character models, constantly great animation, and then sakuga on top of that.
