>there are people who seriously watching anime on 2x speed

for what purpose?
>>
How can you even read the subs that fast?
>>
1.5 actually
I don't have much time
>>
>>158024398
If you take more than a half-second to read a line of subs you're probably just retarded.
>>
>>158024430
jesus christ anon why?

>>158024398
Those types of people usually watch it on dub
>>
>>158024442
>half second
The average human reaction time to visual stimulus is 0.25 seconds. By the time your brain reacts to the text appearing you only have a quarter of a second to read and interpret it or you are retarded.
Am I understanding correctly?
>>

>>
>>158024687
this
>>
>>158024626
I don't know about you but I just automatically register what the entire line says right when it pops up. I don't need to "read through" the words at all. Other people notice it like when I play Jeopardy each night with my family, before my mom finishes reading the question, I already blurted out the answer.
>>

>there are people who watch shows like kare kano solely because anno directed it
Literal idiots.
>>
>>158024364
Indeed, x4 is just great for reading subs!
>>
Eh, this is a just a dumb thread where the OP posts some nonsense for the purpose of posting his favorite image from /s4s/ (no brackets allowed).
>>

I'm not a slow reader by any means but I can't imagine reading subs when they're only up for half the time.

>>

>>
>>158024398
i watched shows on 1.3 for years and can read 2.5x easily. i only do it for shitty shows because i watch everything every season though
>>
>>158024862
You must be fucking illiterate if you have to individually process each word instead of just understanding the sentence when you see it.
>>
>>158024364
I click through the bar and digest entire episodes in like a minute
>>
>>158024995
I do this when I wake up and can't remember if I finished the episode before I delete it.
>>
>>158024862
It's a common speed reading technique. Instead of subvocalizing every word, you treat each word as a "picture". It's hard to explain but it really works once you get it down.
>>
>>158024934
why are you watching shows you dont like in the first place?
>>
>>158024948
I don't have to process every word, but it takes a moment to at least interpret what the fuck the person said to gain a better understanding of what's going on. But like this guy >>158024934 said I guess it doesn't matter for shitty shows.
Idk about you guys but I have my own thoughts going through my head too while watching a show and it tends to get in the way when the subs are coming quickly. Perhaps I have an attention disorder.
>>
>>158024948
>automatically register what the entire line says right when it pops up

>individually process each word

these are the only ways to digest information. either all at once in under .25 of second or one by one...love the logic.
>>
>>158025044
I watch every show every season and there is usually at least something that makes a show memorable. I don't drop shows usually but I've dropped a few in the last few years.

>but you cant really fully enjoy shit nor even experience it if you watch it on 2x speed
You're just too slow I guess. Maybe it's because I had ADD when I was a kid?
>why are you watching shows that you dont like?
If they suck (they feel like a chore to watch) I drop them. Just because a show is bad doesn't mean you can't enjoy it, I liked Denpa Kyoushi and that show sucked ass.
>>
>>158024364
I watch subs between 1.3 and 1.5x speed.

I do it because I don't feel I lose anything, and it merely saves time.

I find it akin to reading a book really fast. I can keep up with the subs, while generally enjoying the animation.

If a scene has a lot going on I just press my hot key that returns to normal viewing speed.
>>
>>158025841
is that really """enjoyment""" when you dont even have the patience to watch the whole damn thing on normal speed?
>>
>>158025780
>but you cant really fully enjoy shit nor even experience it if you watch it on 2x speed
Hey, I didn't say I speed anime up. I think it's the highest form of faggotry.
>>
>>158025902
Yes it is enjoyment, and it isn't every show. Go watch an episode of a show at 2x or 2.5x, then go watch the next episode at 1x. You'll notice how much dead time there is in episodes. Wordy shows like Bakemonogatari (I dropped it) or Tatami Galaxy are shit I'd watch on normal speed, but for cannon fodder battle harem #1516 I'm mainly there so I know the characters or to make reaction images.
>>
>>158024364
I only did it once for the second half of 6th EE and the 7th EE, when I can't just stomach it anymore. Sometimes I like to take the time and appreciate the art and character designs while they're talking, so even the normal speed sometimes is not enough. With that being said I still don't like to watch dubs if the dub is not anything special
>>
OP do you think its wrong skip voiceover lines when reading a visual novel? Because often when I read them they arent even a quarter through the line before I skip it because I already read it.

I'm just impatient to sit around and wait looking at artsy cuts, or dialogue scenes where nothing is actually animated with meaning, and its just people talking.

I slow down for action scenes typically however.
>>
I did it with Hinako Note because it felt very slow on normal speed.
Lasted 3 episodes before dropping it last week, if the show is shit in every way you won't fix it with speed.

I can't do 2x speed, but doing 1.5 is pretty easy and saves a little bit of time. That being said I mostly did it when I was a neet and actually had to make time for an entire season's worth of series.

When you're only watching approx 5-7 series a week it really doesn't matter.
>>
>>158027387
its not just the same if you watch it on a retarded fast pace when it is intended for that scene to be slow paced or mildly slow. You will still miss some of the details. Also, its pretty retarded if you watch characters act and move fast when its not intended to do so in a normal pace
>>
>>158025831
I agree. I know a whole group of people who keep starting shows, enjoying or even loving them, and then just never finishing them or seeming to just find reasons to stop watching them, like this one guy who watched Yu Yu Hakusho because its source material was by Togashi, who made Hunter x Hunter, which is his favorite anime. He heard that a decent amount of people disliked the stuff after the Dark Tournament Saga so for the first thirty episodes or so, he kept saying he'll probably drop it after it and eventually just stopped before even really getting to it, despite really liking it.
>>

>>
>>158024626
yeah but he doesn't have to react to anything, he knows where the subs are going to pop up. It's like when you're doing anything and you know what's going to happen so you can act pre-emptively instead of reactively
also if you take more than a quarter of a second to read a sentence you're probably functionally retarded
>>
>>158026600
Holy fuck, the people I brought up in >>158027622
are constantly on their phones while watching things, like this time this guy had me watch Silence of the Lambs, saying it was one of his favorite movies and then he spent the whole time on his phone, causing there to be a glowing light in the corner of my eye, distracting me the whole movie. We then immediately watched Fear and Loathing in Los Vegas, which he wanted to see badly, and he spent half of it on his phone and then fell asleep.
>>
>>158024364
I find it helps get through a few old shows I would have otherwise dropped. Votoms, at least the first 10 or so episodes, I felt was unbearably slow until I turned it up to 1.5 where it actually felt things were happening at a normal pace which then actually allowed me to enjoy. Though I didn't have this issue at all watching Rose of Versailles or Joe, so maybe it's just a real robot thing.

I unironically watch everything on 3x speed now. It just makes everything so much fucking faster dude. 1 episode in like 6 minutes, I can finish a full season in like an hour and a half. Its like an addiction at this point, I tried to move back to 2x speed but I can't even fucking do that now, its too slow. I think my body has adjusted to it, I really don't have any problems reading subs or anything or keeping up with the action, it just seems normal to me now. Its kind of weird actually, I try to watch normal shows on TV at 1x speed and everything seems like its going in slow motion. Am I actually adjusting my reality to a faster speed?
>>
>>158024364
I've tried this before realising it's pointless and dropping the show.

>>158024364
Can't understand this. Usually by the time I get to watch something I'm so tired I have to constantly repeat scenes because I miss stuff here and there so watching at 2x would be suicide. Also there are many series like Flying Witch, Gochiusa or Aria that need that slow pace and quiet moments to bring out "that" which makes them special to some anons.

As long as they don't go around shouting that they've watched 3433333 anime and their dick is bigger because of that (which I feel would be more like a placebo feeling) I'm fine with whatever people do, maybe they really don't have the time I guess.
>>

Dont do it with anime, because of music and voices and stuff, its an art medium, that kind of stuff matters, especially in anime, the stories are often subpar and predictable so the other part plays a big part for ot to be enjoyable. but 2x is the only way I watch yt videos, why should a gameplay video last an 15 min when I can watch it in 7 and still retain all the info
>>
>>158024364
Some animes are painfully slow.
It's not something for every show but shows that have looooong static panel sliding, tons of substanceless dialogue are made better if you watch them quick.
It's to watch moeshit on 7 minutes breaks or to finish that long running shounen you're burning out on but still want to get close about.
Better than putting on dubs so you can alt tab while watching.
>>158024862
>>158024891
the shows that are worthy of the 2* treatment usually get a lot of generic anime mouth noises and not that much important dialogue anyway.

i don't do it normally, but it can be done easily, the trick is to see the entire sentence as a picture and save it subconsciously. Thus you don't recognize what they said after several second, even though the sentence is long gone by then. I.e. you read it from your memory
There are also a few other techniques you automatically use subconsciously(like ignoring certain words), but that's the main method.

The human brain processes the shape of the words, not what the words actually say. It's how youre able to read shit incredibly fast without needed to see what each word says.

Besides, with all the padding, background shot panning, filling and bullshit in between everything in an episode of anime, 1.5x is normal speed compared to anything else.

I learned to do that with VNs, I think it's about how you watch the phrase, generally people look word by word instead of strings of them
Like "I am > a huge > faggot > I can't > read" vs "I am a huge faggot > I can't read"
Another thing I do when it's a lot of insignificant text is just skim through the phrase and read the words that seem important like "i am a huge FAGGOT i can't READ"

It's literally exactly what happened to /v/ back in like 2008 with 60 FPS. Shit nigger we used to play games on n64 that ran at like 15 fuck off with your 60 frame bullshit. One of the first successfull PC games ran at fucking six.

It is. Attention span of the entire human race plummeted with the advent of cellphones and internet access. I swear over 60% of the population with access to these literally can not sit still for the entire 23 minutes it takes to watch a single episode without doing something else or interrupting it.

SNES had 60 FPS
I never got an n64 for a reason

>Thinking 60 FPS only became a thing in 2008
>Thinking FPS in a video game and the playback speed of a show are remotely comparable
Jesus christ anon

Not when the screen was filled with projectiles it fucking didn't. It wasn't remotely stable and neither were PS1 games.

I think he was comparing more the phenomenon of the change then actually comparing FPS to playback speed. I mean just a few year ago people on /v/ were talking having 120 FPS on PC games and they won't play jack shit if the frame rate isn't unlocked. Now it's literally not even a joke, so these guys get mad when they run into something like in dark souls where each weapon swing takes double the durability, or in vanguish where projectiles hit you twice if the framerate is doubled.

Can read it, but need to stop blinking and breathing which limits my focus to 10 seconds and after that vocalization kicks in again.

>>158024730
It's probably because you've watched so much anime that you understand what they're saying without the subs.
