It needed more episodes. It's a similar length VN to Clannad and Little Busters, and each of those had adaptations with close to 50 episodes. Rewrite had 24.

It is safe to assume they would have put more effort into it.

Some of it also depends on the nature of the story and how you choose to adapt it. Kanon is actually a shorter game than Air, but the adaptation is 24 episodes. Rewrite is longer than both of them combined and has a complex plot. It needed more time, especially in the first season.

Key is just fucking terrible, people only appreciate the things they make for the formulaic scenes designed to make the player cry. They haven't written a single good story - got close with Clannad but decided a story delivering on its themes wouldn't be cool so they should make an ending that ruins them.

It could've been much better, but it could've been much worse as well. Unlike Little Busters!, the best part of the story is the final route(in LB!, the best parts are the common route. not that the common route in Rewrite is bad, though). Adaptation of Tera was fine, considering the number of episodes they had to work with.

More importantly, I am looking forward to Key's next game. That, and English releases for Little Busters!EX and Angel Beats! VN are long overdue.

Rewrite routes ranged from okay to garbage. As much as I liked the characters, the routes weren't consistent enough. The common route was pretty good, but the best part of the game was the Terra route.

Little Busters!'s refrain was really fucking good, but the common route was absolutely 10/10.
