Technically if humans in their world are strong enough to wield metal weapons as if they weighed nothing then dual wielding would be better than one handed. It's only shit in reality because physics means it's inefficient and crap. Kinda like mechas.

Using two weapons instead of a sword and shield or one big sword makes the weilder seem more skilled.

Vikings and various other groups would use two weapons at times but they used two different ones, like sword and ax or sword and dagger.

Using two long weapons is generally a bad idea since they could easily get in the way.

But some people still did it and with 90% of anime characters being superhuman anyways this barely matters.
