Bad things happened to him because he was an Ajin. Not because he was a sociopath. His edginess was the result of being alone in a world out to get him. Detachment from emotion (or pretending to have it) towards others was something he saw as a price for survival. That said, he's not even that edgy. Does what he has to and minds his own business. Dude just doesn't mince words.
