You could but I highly advertise watching the show, it's REALLY good (my favourite anime) and you wouldn't know any of the characters or their relations if you only watched the movie...

I would say no.

Even then though I would recommend you to get through the TV series first and then watch the movie. The TV series is mediocre, but the movie makes up for it ten times over.
