Also in the book of Ezekiel the Cherubim are described as ugly fucks, but in other cases they are shiny beings whom people fear but they are not explicitly ugly. If you want good MCs then look for series which have a focus on character development and narrative first and foremost. That or thing's which are critically acclaimed, as they tend to tick this box, amongst many others.

At first glance it looks like some kind of experimental arthouse thing (given the atypical episode lengths and art style) but in reality it's a lot more down to earth and accessible as far as anime go.
It takes a little while to adjust to its slower pace but overall I think most people would enjoy it on some level so long as they don't have ADHD.
