Yeah I was hoping there would be cool people, but it seemed kind of awkward (and they mostly watched moe stuff, which didn't motivate me to go). My friend at her university tried going to the anime club and had a similar experience, although they also were ridiculously elitist and not very welcoming to newcomers.
