He didn't hate her, her suffering was a part of her role in the story. Setsuna is the only character who appears (and remains as a main character) in all the routes, WA2 as a whole is basically about Setsuna and Haruki's relationship. Maruto himself admitted that Setsuna is his favorite heroine and the only one who is completely written by himself, with the others being just a mix of anime tropes. Kazusa still best girl.
