She was a poor nameless orphan begging on the streets when an Eldian took pity on her and brought her to his underground Eldian church. There they called her 'Ymir' after their goddess and began to worship her.
Eventually the Marleyans found the church and captured everyone, parading them around as heretics and sentencing them to wander Paradis as mindless titans

They probably won't reveal all of that because it touches on things that haven't been confirmed yet, only hinted at.
