is plucky daijobou?
"Season 2 has greatly improved the CGI"
For those who aren't jumping on the hate train let's discuss the anime.
Spoiler alert! That stupid lizard apostle attacks Guts whilst he was still injured yet felt comfortable preaching about honor and strength. If Guts weren't hurt I bet he'd beat that ass in two seconds flatAlso that Armor seems cool and Badass, my theory is that it gives him a healing factor and Amps his strength but causes him to go into a Berserker state, no pun intended.I just hope he kicks that lizard guy's ass real badI also wonder if Guts will take up the Enchanted Axe, Axes would go better with his new Berserker mode
>>157760698
Good.
Can we take a moment to gives props to Miura for artistically trying to make Berserk fans feel like Guts through how terribly Berserk is being portrayed?
Honestly think it's brilliant.
>>157766913
This looks worse than ever before. And it never looked good.
>>157766968
At least they fixed Guts' head from S1
>>157760698
>somebody clicked on Puck and held the button down while shaking the mouse for this animation
>>157760698
TELL ME WHY, TELL ME WHY
TELL ME WHY THEY USED CGI
>>157768367
More like he created two new keyframes, clicked on the middle keyframe, clicked on Puck's z-axis arrow, moved him a little below, and then copied that animation multiple times.
I was actually talking about Berserk with a co worker today. He's a black dude who sounds like snoop dogg. Well I showed up the scene of Guts getting the berserker armor, and now he has started reading the manga.
>>157760698
This is real? Puck looks like he's straight out of Monty Python's Flying Circus.
>slice-of-life comedy about a dragon maid gets fluid, hand-drawn animations
>we get PS3 launch title graphics
>mfw
>>157766913
You're absolutely right. Being a Berserk fan is a struggle.
>>157760698
Honestly that may be preferable to the years of literal hell the rest of us have been through following the manga and it's various hiatuses and boat rides.
>>157765385
Anon, please read the manga, assuming this isn'y bait btw.
>>157765385
>That stupid lizard apostle attacks Guts whilst he was still injured yet felt comfortable preaching about honor and strength. If Guts weren't hurt I bet he'd beat that ass in two seconds flat
Grunbeld is much more powerful than Guts even when he's not injured, he's described as more dangerous in his humanoid form than most other apostles in monster form. Remember Guts has lost to Zodd every time he's faced him, and could barely even beat the Count.
>I also wonder if Guts will take up the Enchanted Axe, Axes would go better with his new Berserker mode
No, Dragonslayer all the way to the end, Guts has always been a sword guy
>>157769357
>>we get PS3 launch title graphics
Honestly the Dreamcast Berserk game had pretty decent cutscenes and that was 20 years ago.
>>157768568
easier to amineit, brub.
lmaoing at normie berserk faggots. getting excited for their extremely dubious quality berserker armor scene, being the plebs that they are. I swear to fuck I heard the "Starcraft 2 armor sound" from that advertisement trailer as Guts was dressed in the armor. "it's about damn time" to realize that they just fucked up true Berserk experience - and did so willinging, like Midland dirt peasants. I can't believe we breathe the same air.
>>157760698
Check out the fucking brows on Ivalera
I thought this part was pretty dope.
But yeah most of the anime looks really bad and I don't get it. Why wouldn't a really good studio take the job? Afraid of fucking it up because Berserk is so hugely popular?
>>157768568
If you have watched the anime (if only to laugh at it together with /a/) you would know that their 2D is also fucking atrocious and can just barely manage short animations and tracing manga panels directly without fucking up.
This is a studio with no talent adapting superior external material.
>>157769357
You wish. This is amateur SFM porn saved as a gif level animation.
>>157774304
>The gang putting the Berserker armor on Guts
>It just has these out of place mechanical interlocking sounds
>Even the Pauldron that looks like it might have had holes that attach to arming points or something
I guess expecting some kind of more elaborate animation from this adaptation was a bit far fetched but this is just awful.
>Those brief seconds of good looking 2D art every episode.
It's as if they're teasing us with what could have been.
>>157776451
Making a Berserk adaption would make you catch shitstorms no matter what because Berserk fans are never satisfied and the fanbase is just too massive and anal about it, like all massive long-time fanbases.
So if your studio already is shit and brought nothing noteworthy to the table ever (and never would) taking the Berserk job would be your best action to stay relevant at all costs.
>>157760698
Hey, If I picked up around where the anime is in the manga how much would I be missing in terms of skipped content?
>>157776679
They're not teasing you with what could have been. They're teasing you with colored traces lifted straight from the manga, ergo they're teasing you with what has been.
Any time it's actually animated beyond panning, blinking or talking it reveals the grotesquery that is this studios inability to animate in 2D.
>>157776685
That's a really lazy justification. Of course they'll always be people not satisfied. The difference is how much disapproval compared to approval. The old TV series is overall, with the negative responses not being quite as big in magnitude. Meanwhile, this new series has been either lukewarm to bad with praises not being as high.
Since you said like all massive long time fanbases, well, the recent HxH and Jojo adaptations have been relatively well received, key word being 'relatively'. Obviously you will still have critics, but that's no reason to not fucking try instead of doing the best that can be done and minimize the negative responses.
>>157776780
You'd be missing some golden age arc stuff if you only watched the movies/ the 1997 anime.
The 2016 anime rapidly fastforwards through the black swordsman arc (Ending it in one episode) and completely skips the Lost children arc as well so you're missing some character development for Guts and Guts overcoming any apostles that aren't the anime original dog apostle prior to donning the Berserker armor.
>>157776972
So I should start from the beginning then?
Ok see you guys in a month or so, I hope
So do people here still think Griffith as a controversial character?
>things Griffith did right
- egalitarian
- ended a 100 year long ruinous wars
- caring for his employees
- hard working
- willing to sacrifice his own body (fucking that paedophile for money) to further his and his employees' interests
- anti-establishment by showing the noble elites that a nobody peasant could achieve higher society
- wanted to start a Kingdom where everything is fair and just
- sacrificed his friends for the greater good, so his dreams could come true
- was right in sacrificing, as he had repelled an invasion from a foreign army
- created a safe haven (Falconia) for the rapefugees that have been affected by the war
>things Griffith did wrong
>>157765385
>let's discuss the anime.
r/anime is that way
>>157766913
Miura is trying to harness the collective rage of his fans to create an ellipse in the real world, allowing him, to ascend as a member of the god hand and thus have enough time to actually finish berserk.
>>157760698
Never read the manga but I think the show is pretty good. No, I am never gonna read it either. Mangas are boring.
>>157776451
I really liked where the sequence was going, then on the transformation they animated until the middle and then skipped to a colored manga page with no sound effects even.
>>157768638
Skin colour is irrelevant of what a person likes.
>anime is so bad and unpopular it'll never inspire new witch loli doujinshi
>no new homo doujinshi
>it won't even boost sales for the manga
So how are the ratings for it in Japan anyways?
So who made the armour. Was it some dwarf? Where are they then, are they extinct like Morrowind's Dwemer.
I didn't keep up with the first season at all, did the japanase mock CLANG as much as western viewers did?
>>157768638
You'd be surprised by how many blacks like anime or manga. It's almost as if an external characteristic isn't enough to classify people into distinct groups
>>157779827
I think it's supposed to be dwarven made. There's a high chance we'll get an encounter on Skellig.
>dwemer
>extinct
>>157765385
>Also that Armor seems cool and Badass, my theory is that it gives him a healing factor
If it gives you a healing factor, ask yourself - how did it kill its previous owner?
>>157765385
>>157779913Too much healing, he got every type of cancer
>>157776451
>Why wouldn't a really good studio take the job? Afraid of fucking it up because Berserk is so hugely popular?
Berserk is both highly detailed, and very, very violent/sexual/gorey.
That second bit limits what time they can show it, which makes it harder for it to make money, and the less money it can make, the less time they can put into animating it.
Hence the cheap mess we have now. It was less risk for a studio to do it that way.
Kai Ikarashi (Trigger animator) joins the roasting.
>>157760698
I don't think anyone who doesn't read the manga would watch this anime.
I mean, we watch it because we read the manga, if not none of us would've been watching this awful CG shows.
>>157780482
I usually don't give a fuck but that scene was really, really bad.
>>157776959
>Not trying to minimize negative responses
>More 2D drawings, updated character models from last season.

>>157778856

The art was drawn and colored by Miura to hype up the fight. I looked at both and it's not 1:1 the same take note the eyes and the mouth of the armor.
>>157780706
>>157780482
Do you think a competent studio would have made a berserk anime if the movies never existed?
don't think they had much confidence after the movies bombed in the box office.
>>157779709
Well Japan likes it and are hyped for the fight actually. It's much better than the West. What makes it ironic is unlike the West they do not get mad over everything and understand the industry as a whole.
>>157760698

God you Americans do not know Jack shit about Japanese people.
>>157760698
I still can't get over how shit it has gotten. Should have ended a long time ago.
>>157760698
The same can be said for the 1998 low budget anime. It was absolute shit even Miura admitted that it could have been much better.
>>157780793
Berserk is one of the most iconic seinens n Japan. The fact it has cgi on the same level as some chinese cartoon for a webcomic really shows how shit the berserk anime is.
is the animation for this episode worse than usual or is it just me?
>>157780865
It's much better than you make it out to be. I do not understand why you make a big deal out of something that is not going to change. Last I checked Berserk was about the story and the characters and the soundtrack.
>>157780899
To be fair they had to cut corners for the Berserk Armor reveal. If they fucked it up Berserk fans would be even more pissed.
>>157780845
T. Never watched the anime so I am going to hate on it.
god i love these apostles, especially that huge guy with dragon shield
the archer guy is also pretty good
>>157780697
The 3D models are still pretty crap and they haven't moved away from the awkward fake crosshatching shading. And even though it's all 3D models in a 3D scene the animation is as stilted as low budget 2D with every character waiting until it's their turn to animate aside from some unskilled interjections like those Isidro rolls.
And the 2D drawings are either QUALITY or unapologetically traced straight from the manga with animation limited to "talking" at best.
>>157780863
>old anime was mostly panning 2D stills
>new anime is mostly 3D stills
How the times have changed
>>157780954
By that logic listening to Hirasawa and reading the manga is superior to this anime.
>>157780996
>Berserk armor is revealed in the OP
They already fucked it up.
>>157781225
>TFW trying too hard to dislike something that someone else likes.

>>157781225
>awkward fake crosshatching shading
Sad thing is I kind of like it, but it looks hidoeus when they pan over a scene and you realize that it's just a transparent level with a pattern
>>157780780
>What makes it ironic is unlike the West they do not get mad over everything and understand the industry as a whole.
Makes sense. That's probably why anime is mostly shit nowadays.
>>157780865
>The fact it has cgi on the same level as some chinese cartoon for a webcomic
Not even close. Tales of Demons and Gods is far worse, and incredibly sloppy, and it takes them a week to produce one 8 minute episode, which is technically 5.5 minutes once you take out the intro and outro.
>>157781225
>I DONT LIKE IT BECAUSE ITS NOT MY PREFERENCE AND EVERYONE SHOULD AGREE WITH ME REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

>And the 2D drawings are either QUALITY or unapologetically traced straight from the manga with animation limited to "talking" at best.
They updated from season 1 even Griffith had a new character model that no one has bashed so far because it looks sick as fuck actually. I do like the Crosshatching shading because it actually is close to Miura's shading style in the manga and there was an attempt to get closer to it.
3D modeling is a pain in the fucking ass to make look real, the human eye easily can see faults with 3D and even 2D. The Isidro rolls i actually thought were meant to be more funny really its not an important scene so who gives a fuck really?
Traced from the manga? Dude its a direct adaptation from the manga and that is what the fans wanted. That is what most manga readers want to see.

The blu rays actually fix all the problems on the anime and even REDO key scenes over again. Thats why it takes 6 months to a year before it releases on Blu Ray.

m8 the blu rays for the first season had improvements for a few scenes but it still looked like shit. I know you like Berserk, but give it up. Wait 10 more years until they start another adaptation.

- Raped Casca because he got a god complex and wanted to fuck her after she rejected him in his mutilated-bandage-boy state
- As a result of raping Casca he made a permanent enemy of Guts, the biggest threat to him, when he probably could've eventually convinced Casca and Guts to help him by explaining that sacrificing the Band of the Hawk for more power would ultimately reduce the mountain of corpses paving the path to his dream

If Berserk 2017 is any indication i would say its good enough but definitely much better than the first episodes that came through the 2016 anime which was completely horrendous. >>157783115
As you already know, Japan doesn't care about western audience at all and there's still a long way to go for them to give a damn.
This adaptation looks terrible anyways
I HAVE QUESTIONS:
Now that guts has the armour on and it's setting his bone fractures, can he ever remove it?
Also, when does the dragonslayer first make its appearance in the anime?
>>157781632

>>157784785
Yeah, he took it off while he was on the boat.
>>157782412
Griffith doesn't see Guts as the biggest threat to his dream. From post-Eclipse Griffith's perspective, Guts is just a puny mortal he got pissed at a while ago and sacrificed but is taking a bit longer than usual to hand over his soul. He doesn't care one way or another what happens to Guts.
Also
>implying Guts would ever be persuaded that betraying the Band of the Hawk was a good thing
>>157784785
Dragonslayer makes its first appearance in the 1997 anime for the snake apostle fight.

>>157785725
That's just Schierke's eyes.
It's a kind of poorly chosen shot and I'm not sure if it's the same in the manga or not.
>>157781632
>>157784852
I have no problem with CG in theory but this is just badly executed CG that doesn't use any of the merits of the medium well and was probably chosen because the studio couldn't 2D even close to the same quality as Berserk, given that its previous work is mostly Teekyu which speaks for itself.
>>157786029
Yeah it's pretty cancerous but I wouldn't say it's specifically Japanese. I don't necessarily get the vibe that even Berserk (I haven't checked the framerate) chooses to animate its characters on 2s or 3s (when it chooses to animate them) in contrast to CG anime that very obviously uses "limited animation".
>>157780780

>>157785725
>>157787104
The eyes overlaid onto the sword is the same in the manga but in the manga there is a better indication that they are Schierke's eyes as she is shown to notice something in the preceding panel.
In the anime it cuts straight to this image from an inattentive Schierke and Schierke's eyes differ in color (I assume because she is perceiving the astral plane) when compared to the previous shot.
>Rewatching weapon scene
>Schierke just kind of spazzes out while holding the axe which I guess is supposed to demonstrate her inability to hold it?
>>157782704
I'm not sure if the bar for quality has gotten so low that people would honestly say this>>157780706 is acceptable or its just stockholm syndrome at this point. You can't even use the excuse that "the story and characters makes up for the budget" because by that logic you should read the fucking manga instead, there's nothing in this adaptation that improves upon the source of material or makes it worth watching the people who are upset about this love Berserk and think it deserves much better treatment than this while the people defending honestly just don't care and need moving pictures in order to enjoy something I guess.
What are the canon dimensions of the Dragonslayer? It seems like Miura makes it longer or thicker for dramatic effect at will
>>157788231
As wide as a torso, as long as a nippon, and as thick as cock.
so about as big as your regular white man greatsword.
>>157776780
You would miss a huge amount of the story, with entire (really good) arcs and characters being cut out of the anime. Just read it from the beginning, it's amazing and worth it.
