You could run them through optipng, it'l convert the TIFFs to PNG for better storage.

Pic related, just downloaded a random chapter and cleaned it up. I'm a comic artist myself so have a good idea of how to level pages appropriately and also have some industry-used bitmapping PS actions that adjust inks for print
