What have you anons been watching lately?

Personally burning through a rewatch of the Macross TV anime. Holding pretty good t.b.h.
>>
Macross 7
>>
Haven't been watching much anime lately. Seen some Kodocha a while ago, but still at episode 5. And still at episode 29 of Turn A Gundam, same as weeks ago.

Anime is hard. I can never watch it, because I'm never in the mood.

Been thinking about the last episode of the second YKK OVA lately, maybe I end up finishing the anime soon.
>>
I read pic related this week, it was pretty satisfying, although it definitely overcomplicated Shion and Mokuren's relationship more and more over their backgrounds. Mokuren was much better than Arisu, though she was okay. I lol'd heartily when Shion and Gyokuran were in huge repressed love with each other.
>>
Is Oniisama e growing in popularity, or do I just notice it now because I actually know it exists?

I'm not sure but I also watched it recently because I kept seeing threads about it so I guess it's the former.

Maison Ikkoku. It's not as good as Pic related, but it's way better than Ranma.

161 GB was probably the largest size torrent i have ever downloaded. But now that the Blue-ray of Urusei Yatsura is completed i will have to re-watch it, haven't watched any of it since mid 2000's. 272gb torrent size will take a while.
>>
My plan to encode most or all of the better.php AB DVD rips is probably gonna stop soon, the rest are either live action or Chinese series. Perman is probably next. Finished Uchuu space patrol recently, up on AB and the Youtube account.

Yes, it is good. The CGI is not bad.

Both are great. If you have BBT or AB you can grab the BD of Urusei.
>>
>>157707473

I copied this from a post on here once before, I think this is how to watch Urusei Yatsura as it was released:

Start with episodes 1-58
Then, movie 1, Only You
59-106
Movie 2, Beuatiful Dreamer
106-140
Movie 3, Remember My love
141 - 174
OVA 1
175 - 195
Movie 4, Lum the Forever
OVA 2 - 11
Movie 6, Always, my Darling
OVA 12
Movie 5, The Final Chapter
>>
>>157708559
>The ancient CGI always made ignore it.

Initial D is the proof that it's not the quality of the CGI that matters but how you use it.

>>157709465

How do you even start with Lupin? Is the very beginning subbed?

I've been making my way through Dunbine, it's interesting how many tropes of isekai anime were already there 34 years ago. Not that it's at all a bad example; if it came out today I'd still love it, having the MC switch sides a couple episodes in is an interesting twist, the politics of the fantasy world have more depth than in a lot of modern series, and I'm a sucker for the genre anyway.

But I still laugh at Tomino's naming sense (or lack thereof).

>Isekai is originally a Japanese thing
That's where you're wrong, the name may be Japanese but the idea was solely British going as far back as Narnia or even earlier than that. There may be other cases but I'm pretty sure Narnia is what popularized it in fiction. But still pretty coincidental two ideas originating in Britain(isekai/NEET), have become synonymous with Japanese culture.

How is Dunbine anyway? Was planning on making it the next non-Gundam series by Tomino I watch after I'm done with Turn A.
>>
I watched Maison Ikkoku a couple of months ago, and argued a bit about it here.

I don't have anything else pre 2000 still on my backlog, hell, my backlog is pretty small right now, I've watched pretty much everything I wanted.

I did download LOGH, I'm kind of put off by the low quality and yellow subs though, is it really that good or just a meme?
>>
>>157711012
Alice in Wonderland is kind of Isekai too though.
>>
>>157711012
You were also considering Dunbine after you finish Turn A? That's my idea as well. Turn A is going slowly, so may not start Dunbine this year, but the idea is to do something along these lines. Can't start too many Tomino anime at the same time.

>>157710876
Yes! I really liked that anime, possibly in my top 5 of 1998, or at least top 7-8. Very enjoyable, fun and the animation/looks were amazing!!
>>
>>157711204
Turn A is pretty slow, but once it gets going you won't be able to stop watching.

Kinda like Macross 7 but better paced (Macross took like half of the series to get good).
>>
>>157711092

It's good but a slow burner though. Watch My Conquest is the Sea of the Stars as a sample on whether you'd like the OVA series.

>>157711204

Last Tomino I watched was Zambot 3 which was awesome, good character development and unique soundtrack. Turn A is pretty comfy so far, I love how he's made us forgotten it's a Yoshiyuki Tomino anime until death and destruction starts happening. Poe best girl so far.
>>
>>157711279
I got really into it, but I only had the first 25 episodes downloaded, so had to stop there. Didn't have the storage space to download the rest either, but since then I did stream a few episodes, seen 29 episodes so far. And now I'm kinda stuck on how to download anime at all, now that all the sites are gone, so even though I now have the storage space, I may still have to stream the rest. Which is a problem, because most of Turn A Gundam, I saw while on the train or bus, where there is no internet to stream from. So to continue, I have to be at home, and change my habits for Turn A Gundam.
>>
>>157711012
Dunbine is getting blurays in July or something, I wouldn't wait it out if I were you though, Ideon took 3-4 years.
>>
>>157711012

I know it has predecessors (and Narnia's not the oldest, Alice in Wonderland and Barsoom and probably some other stuff predate it) but this is the oldest example in anime I'm aware of, and it's still interesting to see how things have evolved over the years.

Dunbine's really good so far, I'm enjoying it a lot.
>>
>>157711279

Macross 7 is an 49 episodes built for the sake of reaching that 5 to 10 minute conclusion at the very end. And it somehow pays off.
>>
>>157711377
I think I only have the OVA series.

I wish it was like Crest of the Stars, I really loved that show.
>>
>>157711685

>The wait for Ideon BDs

I remember, I've been meaning to rewatch since I used /m/subs shitty quality the first time round but now I have the entire thing I'm looking forward to watching it again.
>>
>>157711835
Macross 7 is my 2nd least favorite, I don't feel like it really paid off. Turn A on the contrary was a wild fucking ride, even with the early pacing issues.

With Macross I only dislike Plus more because I absolutely hate the cast, but the direction was a lot better than 7.

7 has GOAT soundtrack though.
>>
>>157711952

Macross Plus is one of the better, if not the best, series I have seen so far.

Never have I seen such amazing pacing with a good story and amazing art.

90s OVAs we're the best in general I suppose.
>>
>>157711882
I don't think /m/subs did Ideon or Dunbine. They did L-Gaim which is another mad Tomino show.
>>
Resumed watching Sailor Moon since I nearly dropped due to how repetitive it was getting. Now that we're getting good exposition on the lore things are getting more interesting.

>Ojou-sama and teasing personality
Venus is top tier, best girl without a doubt.

>>157712147

Do I watch Touch or Cross Game for my first Adachi?
>>
Currently watching Vifam and the show is pretty solid. I expected to find the kids annoying but outside Kent they're normally enjoyable. I also like how they take the time to acknowledge that space is both huge and empty.
What happens to Ms. Kate is fucking horrifying.
Also good music. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gqMSWy01Qng
>>
>>157712716

Sounds good. How is the subtitle and video quality?
>>
>>157713047
Subs are good but the video quality is what you would expect from an 80's TV series with no BD's. Not sure where you would get it from, I got mine from BakaBT before they went full retard.
>>
>>157712546
I like Sailor Moon for the slice of life parts, comedy and general interaction between the cast. The lore and all that bullshit is the weakest part of the show.
>>
>>157711012

Are you on a bandwith limit?

Just download 10 episodes at a time anon. That's what i do on larger releases.

Zeta Gundam.

Touch.

Cross Game is a good series, but it goes way downhill when the new girl is introduced. I don't want to spoil anything, so i leave it at that.

Such an amazing masterpiece. The first five or six episodes were a bit too cheesy but then it quickly begun improving and it basically never stopped. Osamu Dezaki was a god, his style incredible, I need to watch more of his stuff.
>>

I have recently started watching Gundam, mostly because I have never seen anything from the UC continuity and man am I disappointed. The original series was ok, but at least I could appreciate it for the impact it had. I throughly hated Zeta and after four episodes of ZZ I wonder if I should just drop it.

Natsuki Crisis and sukeban deka are the only ones i can think of when it comes to this because of how straightforward it is. Modern brawlers are too silly(ex. ikkitousen had more ecchi than brawler fights, and ben-to is full of bad femdon fetish).

Watched a lot of old Ghibli films which was quite fun, half way through the first season of Ashita No Joe and I quite like it. Also downloaded F, an interesting F1 themed anime, which is apparently highly technical and detailed, but suffers from being translated from Italian to English, and the Italian translation took a lot of liberties with the original dialogue. I might just read the manga if that has a better translation.

It's extremely homo.

Buuuuut... I mean, it does have stereotypical 90's anime space stuff. Lots of beeps and boops and laser noises and space biker gangs.

You ignore the explicit gay sex and the cock ring shit and the rest of it's still pretty good.

The blond guy gets his legs cut off, bottom gets his dick lopped off and they both die in a giant fiery explosion so it's pretty metal.
>>
>>157714751

When it comes to muscle girls there is a fine line that you need to thread very lightly.

>>
Not in the mood to watch anime or play videogames, not having a job is killing me

Started this last week cuz i wanted something easy to watch before going bed and surprisingly is quite fun so far

I have watched the first 6 episodes and the show seems quite dumb but at least it's not cliche (for now) and it feels like it doesn't try to be the ultimate shonen where the MC is trying to save the universe with his crushing worlds powers

Also looks super cheap but it really fits how lighthearted is the show

Just so happened it was one of the only animes they kept playing on Comcast On-demand for free in the 2000s so I just kept watching it.

If you haven't read the manga yet I highly recommend it. It's just as fun and there's more to explore.

So guys, what are some of your favorite songs from pre-2000 anime?

I love a funky bass and singers with an 80s metal power scream, and the occasional pop song from any of Rumiko's works.
>>
>>157721784
I've only watched the original and DYRL but I really like the idea of using culture as a weapon. Also it's got cute girls and robots.
>>
>>157726816
All about "muh android rights" if you're into that, with the added spin that she can get pregnant. Overall it's a pretty decent cyberpunk OVA. Just avoid the shitty sequel movie.

No. It just repeats the same bullshit until half way through when the plot shifts into gear before repeating the same shit over and over in the 2nd half too.

Zeta Gundam isn't a trainwreck, more like a high speed bullet train that's faster than what's safe. It doesn't go off the rails, but everyone inside is dead anyway.
>>
>>157717573
The problem with Zeta is that Tomino forgot what human beings act like, so all the dialogue and character actions are really fucking weird.
>>
>>157729933
Well shit. I made through Gundam SEED and Destiny, guess I'll just power through 7 too.

Nah. They're even MORE styled in his rendition than the original. A lot less thicc though.

Pretty much somes up my feelings for both Ideon, Zeta and ZZ.

I recently watched Tekkaman Blade II without seeing the TV show it follows. Is it worth watching? The OVA had really nice animation so I'm not sure if I want to watch what might be just a drawn out low budget Tekkaman kills aliens with his super move for 50 episodes. Music seems pretty rad https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GKmceKAyuA0

So you're actually just being elitist for no reason other than "muh 80s" and hating on BASARA of all people (even though he is a clown)
>>
>>157732982
he's actually right about 90s mecha though, it's usually overdesigned shit
>>
>>157732982
Well I just prefer the more grounded looking 80s designs, while 90s starts to look more like parody to me.
