The card game is a vehicle for the drama. The author admits they don't know a lot about card games hence why things are somewhat vague and watered down.

Think of this like that board game from HxH. The rules don't matter, just how characters interact with each other.

Not defending absolutely everything about the process of purchasing cards, but designing, balancing, testing (to whatever degree) cards and systems, commissioning art for the cards and so on is also a cost factor above and beyond printing the things.

Dunno if you'd call a card an art object in and of itself in the same way, but for instance a book has more "worth" than the paper it's printed on.

Huh, I hever got too into the MTG scene to learn all the lingo. Nah, I am strictly a poorfag when it comes to cards so I ususally play stuff that is out of meta or just old in general. I was still running fusions and an ancient gear deck in Yu-gi-oh when XYZ summons were introduced. I guess going off this series terminology I would be a 'Roman' because nothing makes me harder than swinging on my opponent with a limit removal'd Ultimate Ancient Gear Golem.
