>A decade later
and still the best Anime ever
what went right?
>>157552411
One of the best openings.
>manga isn't licensed in english
Why?
It's shit.
>>157552411
>best
You misspelled "worst."
But it wouldn't even be that. It just came out just in time to be babby's first edgy anime. Making all the kids feel cool to watch something with so much cartoonish blood.
Nevermind it's not even good and it and doesn't take the time to enjoy itself being bloody like the great old ultraviolent OVAs from the 80s and 90s. It just tries so hard to be so serious that it just makes it even funnier at how pathetic it is.

Anime was meh but the manga was god-tier.
>>157552411
>best Anime ever
You're joking right?
You can't unironically think Elfen Lied is a good anime, can you?

Godlike OP, amazing fucking execution. The anime was ''good'', but had some noticeable flaws.
>>157552411
OP song is great
only this and nothing more

>The anime was ''good''
"Why?"
What was Nyu's problem?
It is clearly patrician tier, but the pseudo intellectuals will always go against the grain.
>>157553168
Probably content problems.
Not because the gore or violence but the absolute depravity of showing women's uncovered breasts.
Brynhildr manga is superior in every way. Anime was shit though, not even remotely as iconic as Elfen Lied one.
Plot was meesy and too much melodrama for me.
>>157556483
Has Brynhildr been completely scanlated already?
>>157556684
Yes.

Elfen Lied is a historic anime. That is not the same thing as it being an entertaining one.
As a tentpole release of 2006 it's significant as representing the high-water mark of the Western anime boom, and it's fixed in a lot of weeaboo's memories as their cartoons-ain't-just-for-kids adolescent growing pains - 90s kids had Manga Entertainment's Urotsukidoji, 00s kids had ADV Film's Elfen Lied.
But lame direction, awful voice acting, shoddy character art and animation, plot holes, insipid characters and poorly-argued themes - as an actual show it fails on every metric.

This. The only thing redeemable about it was the OP
I actually thought the show was overhyped garbage and this was in my edgy teen years when I didn't even know shows like berserk existed.
The first episode was okay but it just turned into some shitty romcom anime with blood.
>>157557148
In no way am I defending Elfen Lied but the anime didn't really turn into a romcom. It had romcom elements that were meant to endear you towards Nyu and the Diclonius in general to, y'know, make up for all the wanton murder. And it also cushioned those scenes so it wasn't a 25 minute murder fest but it never actually transitioned into romcom. If anything, it was almost poking fun at the 'strange girl ends up living in my house but all is well and good except these coed shenanigans' fantasy fulfillment thats so popular in anime. Like, hey look at this cute, innocent girl except oh no, she just tore apart one of her own kind limb from limb. Thats what you get for inviting a stranger into your house. This isn't the sexy fantasy you had in mind, is it?

Plooot holes, unthoughtful character design/development, bad pacing (though they only had 13 episodes to tell the story). I could think of more but I don't feel like typing a whole essay.
>>157558542
>unthoughtful character design
What is that even supposed to mean?
>>157556483
Woah what the fuck happened there
>>157552411
the ending was shit, being able to stretch arms the length of the world is kind of idiotic

I didn't get to experience the magic as a middle-schooler. I purchased the series in college years later for 16 bucks secondhand going on nothing other than a vague sense of notoriety. My dorm mates and I had a bit of fun with it for all the wrong reasons, but I kinda wish I could have seen it when I was younger just to know what it must have been like to think it was good.
