Not really, the goddess had nothing to do with the people they were ebfore being summoned. Some of it is actually to some existing flaws in thier personalities prior to being summoned. Out of all the hero candidates, naofumi was the best, but the shield always snatches the best ones. Motoyasu, Ren and Itsuki were hero material but they werent as good as naofumi.

Motoyasu was a womanizer and got emotional scars after getting stabbed by his childhood friend and a cute ojou he was seeing.

Itsuki had a hero/inferiority complex due to his abilities being always inferior to those of his peers back in his world which is not-academy city btw, he used videogames as an escape from that reality and longed to be a hero of justice do to those influences.

I don't know what's with ren though. We do know that he is young and inexperienced, but really laments the deaths of his companions, even though he was a little shit that wanted to play solo. I guess they will clear that up in the LN.

A weeb friend of mine showed me "edgy" manga some of them being this and Instant Bullet. I got to read the shieldbro manga and i got hooked so i wanted more. Then it turned out at that tiem the translations for the Web Novel were already finished so i got to read that. Then i really liked the series so i bought the LNs.

I came for the edgy and styed for the comfy and the adventures. I really liked how the LN fixes a lot of the problems from the web novel version on top of adding more content. Yet i feel some things could have been better handled or at least didnt need much change. I always get surprised how stuff changes from one version of the story to another, also it was the first LN/WN i read so i might be biased about it but i can recognize it's faults and mistakes.

Not sure exactly hows it handled in shieldbro. But a miracle medicine is said to be both addictive and have a love potion-like effect. I would assume they would be handled with a mix of laws from the past and present since the heroes summoned have an understanding of the effects of drugs and psychoactive substances. Rarely you'd see a doctor specialized in those themes summoned but it could happen.

Having started with the LN/Manga reading the WN feels weird, like the story is really disjointed and sorta unfocused is probably the best way I can put it.
