Zoku Shou second season is a masterpiece and by far the best Mushishi season. It completely crushes every other season.

If I watched the original when it aired about a decade ago, would there be any reason to rewatch it before starting the second season? I know the episodes were self contained, but can't remember if there were any big developments I would need to know about near the end

There are some weak stories because first season takes most the better ones but overall is very enjoyable like the first one.

They're both 100% faithful to the manga, which is good all the way through. Of course there are some stories that are better or more memorable than others.

it's pretty much panel-to-panel adaptation, the only anime original episode is that kova with sun-eating mushi
