Author's twitter said he'd like to put in a bonus chapter in the last volume to address the bloodline plot, some of the unresolved character loose ends, and the harem. But it's not confirmed.

No. It doesn't work like that, possibly due to copyright ownership or something. Hell's Kitchen and Highschool of the Dead had similar things happen; Hell's Kitchen's author was also writing Nobunaga no Chef at the time and that really took off so he put Hell's Kitchen on hiatus, and the artist ended up doing other stuff before coming back this year with a spinoff involving the main villain without the original writer. HOTD's writer was too sick to write consistently and decided to put it on hiatus, so his artist went off and did Triage X and they never got back together to finish HOTD before the writer died.

It's possible that, as co-copyright holders, they'd lose out financially if they brought on replacements. It's also possible it's just the Japanese mentality which hates replacing people on projects because of some misguided sense of giving proper credit to the "right" people.
