Naruto's clones poof into smoke when they so much as stub their toes, and Shadow Clones are (ironically) noteworthy for being autonomous and fully solid. Basically Sadow Clones are the best thing they have, with the closest similar things being elemental clones, made of water or earth for example, which also dissolve into their base material when struck.

I judge a first episode on how it sells the setting, premise, and characters. The CG opener does that really well, especially with the cliffhanger of the first geass and Lelouche starting to make deliberate moves againt the regime. If seen as a two parter it just gets better.
