While I love most of OP flashbacks I have to admit it's the most awkward place for a flashback so far. Even more so then Drum (in the middle of a punch). And I think Oda's tendency to put them the furthest it's possible rarely really benefits the story. If WCI can stick the landing after the flashback then it'll definitely be one of my favorite arcs, period. Given how much shit there is to handle in the wake of the rocket strike on Big Mom, it's a big ask, but I'm hoping it can pull it off.

Hey, guys. I'm catching up on One Piece, haven't read it for about five years now. Should I bother catching up with the show too? I remember really enjoying it back in the good old days, with some great memories of the more powerful moments of the manga being adapted really well (Luffy VS Crocodile, Luffy VS Usopp, Luffy VS Lucci) but I also remember that it was getting real slow and not as good at adapting stuff (They adapted Marineford badly and dragged it on too long, in my opinion) and I'm afraid it's still like that

I suppose that's true, though I would wonder if 2 groups could possibly work for some of the more Straw Hat relevant plots in Wano, such as the poneglyphs, but 3 would be the safe option to avoid it being too crowded.

As you said, there's some interactions of the main Straw Hats that haven't had much time to be explored, Franky receives the short end of that stick quite a lot as the designated ship-babysitter, which was one of the elements of Dressrosa that I loved early on, just Franky tagging along with Luffy's group and being able to direct him along.

As for some of the more common character match ups, I'd be sad to not see the ramifications of the events of WCI on Sanji's interactions with his more common interaction targets, like Nami, Luffy and Zoro. But hopefully that'd be touched on in the journey to Wano so there's sufficient time for the other interactions to go ahead in Wano.

With Sanji and Luffy, I'd like them to have some time to just goof around and not Luffy asking for food or Sanji getting mad about some shit. Their smalltalk as they fight the lapans (or whatever the were called) in Drum is probably my favorite in-crew comedy exchange in OP.

And honestly, I don't see Zoro/Sanji or Nami/Sanji dynamic ever changing. At best we will get some semi-bro moment once they Zoro and Sanji meet again. Though if Zoro was to be captured as some theories say, seeing Sanji be the one to rescue him (together with bridal carry) would be neat.

Oh, nd yeah, Franky got it the worst. He literally never talked with Nami and exchanged like three words with Zoro. He pretty much only has some actual relationship with Robin, Brook and Usopp. Though in the case of Usopp, I think we still have lots of unused potential, like they could have shared project or whatever.

I never ship but Oda has been giving male SHs potential love interests for some time now. He had Hancock falling for Luffy (which was actually an important plot point), implied Tashigi has some feelings for Zoro in SBS, Chopper had finally found a crush, Sanji now has this drama with Pudding. Plus Kaya can easily be made a love interest for Usopp. It'd probably be the best for the story if these won't get too much focus, but at this point I'm pretty sure he's going for "married with children" epilogue.

With Sanji and Luffy I always enjoyed that Sanji, whilst still young, was just a bit more mature than Luffy. So you had a good mix of both comedic and serious scenes between the two and their general chemistry was befitting their age. They sometimes get caught up in each others tempo and there's clearly a lot of trust there, particularly from Luffy to Sanji. Sanji comes across like a slightly older brother when they're not doing the whole, Sanji being angry about food or women bit.

I'm hoping that the events of the arc will help temper Sanji's more abrasive elements, and really sure up his connection with Luffy, given just how far he went to save him. I think both he and Brook suffer from having one of their primary comedic bits overplayed, when they're much more enjoyable when played straight. WCI has been refreshing for both of them, though they've both had good snippets elsewhere post-timeskip.

As for changing dynamics, I could see the events of WCI causing somewhat of a change, shipping aside, if Sanji makes some connection with Pudding his pervert comedic bit could be less played up, though still present.

As for him and Zoro, there's legitimate reason for tension there now, given the problems that Sanji's self-sacrifice generated as he should have known how Luffy'd react. I'm sort of surprised that he didn't try a bit harder to cover up the situation, to try and fool Luffy, but that's a minor complaint at best. I would hope the two could actually bond over the commitment to Luffy's dream as Zoro always came across as the more serious of the two in that regard.

More from Franky in general would be great, he's really flexible in that he can be both the comedic character or the serious, intelligent plan maker.

I liked Fishman Island, Hody Jones was a pretty interesting villain. I just wish the execution of the arc was a little better. I could have done with less drawn out battles. Dressrosa suffered from the same thing. Punk Hazard was complete shit though. Easily the most boring arc since Impel Down.

Then the sheer existence of 4chan, or at least continual generals, is shitposting. Threads can only hold new ideas on property for a certain amount of time before old arguments are repeated, ideas are compared again, and people share what they want to discuss for another time. People make threads about topics to keep those topics about what they want to talk about. Some people want to talk ships, some people want to talk power levels, some people want to talk quality of the storylines. I want to talk about Monet, and the continual denial people take on these issues.

This idea of what is or isn't quality posting is subjective and also misses the point of generals. A general isn't designed to be a continual stream of universally accepted posts of high standard that fit everyone's idea. They're designed to be containments for big fandoms with lots of things to talk about. 20, 30 threads could be made of the things we talk about so we keep them here. Do I like when threads discuss on end their favorite ship, or devolve into greentext about jobbing or Oda's quality? Hell no. Keeping Caeser alive was insurance to prevent Doffy from taking direct action against he alliance and instead negotiate with them. Law didn't expect Doffy to have the influence and power he did, so in his mind Doffy resigning from the shichibukai meant that either Kizaru/Fujitora/Ryokugyu/Akainu takes him out, or Kaido comes in and beats his ass. Either way, Law wins.

I agree completely, In OP there are some characters that could beat Luffy and could perfectly be hardcountered by someone weaker (Like Usopp/Perona case).
However, Doffy speed style seems to have an advantage against Zoro strenght based style, plus Zoro wasn't aware of Doffy's fruit which could 've turned things against him.
That being said, I would've liked it better if Zoro stalled Doffy for those 10 minutes.

They were originally just going to help Law with his plan, that plan being to take out Doflamingo by forcing him to either accept dealing with Kaido's wrath, due to no Caesar to produce artificial devil fruits, or the Navy's due to his hostile takeover of an entire kingdom. However, he was also delaying for the Straw Hats to destroy the Smile factory, thus forcing Kaido's wrath and ensuring Doflamingo was fucked.

The problem is Law didn't realise just how deep a connection Doflamingo had with the World Government and he got played pretty fucking hard. When Doflamingo got serious he was turning his surroundings into weaponized threads, Luffy could deal with it given his speed and flying with Gear 4, Zoro wouldn't have that luxury. I liked it but the biggest issue is that there's almost no tension until the Noah comes into play. Hody at the end was mostly just a pest who was more of a danger to the royal siblings than he was to Luffy. It had the misfortune of being right after the TS in that sense.

But, as you say, his awakening string bullshit would leave Zoro pretty fucked, particularly if he just turned the ground underneath him into strings. I think he'll likely be killed in the reverie. From a narrative point of view, it would be a good way of bringing Vivi back into the story with the Straw Hats, and it would present a reason for Luffy to collide with the WG in the foreseeable future (i.e. to help Vivi).

Without double sign in Alabasta Vivi could have died to Mr. 2, without his plan in Dressorsa king, Usopp, samurais etc. would be fucking dead. Without him actually deciding to stop the cage by force, Luffy wouldn't have the time needed to finish Doflamingo. In most cases he wasn't doing everything on his own, but Mr. Prince also required Chopper's help, and they were still Zoro's autonomous decisions. These actions weren't minor, and Zoro isn't useless without orders. Come on.

I'm pretty sure Zoro is outright stronger than Sanji, partially because he specializes in armament haki, but Sanji is much more mobile than Zoro, coupled with his specialization in observation haki.

Very frequently Sanji ends up doing some side plan that ends up rescuing the others, so him being able to get there in time helps a lot.

That's the setup that I most enjoy in the Straw Hats. Sanji being a bit below Zoro in terms of overall combat ability, but making up for it in other areas and making use of his far greater maneuverability to either go do some important job, protect some of the weaker combatants present or just fight the quick or equally maneuverable strong enemy present. In Dressrosa he was just incredibly unfortunate that the quick, maneuverable enemy present was Doflamingo himself.

It'll be interesting to see how Jinbei fits in with that whole dynamic, he's got a lot of tools to utilize with his fishman karate, particularly against devil fruit users or opponents near water.
