Gon isn't the main character anymore though.
>Friendship is only brought in moments were it's appropriate and not a ploy to get stronger to beat the bad guy.
>Somehow being determined is a flaw.
>Purity is what led to his homicidal breakdown. All of his shonen-ish characteristics were treat as flaws.
You heard that correct.
2011 is a gigantic downgrade in every single way compared to the 1999 version. Only reason to even watch it is because Chimera Ant & Hunter Association president arcs.
He's lively, funny, strong & strong willed, does not emo around, and gits gud via training and guts.
>at least Naruto is a bit fun to watch as a brat,
Jesus fuck how horrible! I still want to kick his fucking shit-eating grin teeth into his throat.
Although in his defense, he was literally designed to tick you off.
Thanks for conceding.
Also, I'll admit the the second and third points nay be a bit confusing. Determination in and of itself isn't a flaw and should be a good quality of any decent character. That's how it was for Gon in the early portions of the story. But it's because of that determination that he saw to it that he get his revenge on Pitou no matter what, even if he had to kill an innocent person.
No, this is what someone who literally marathoned both versions for the first time ever within the past month KNOWS.
And ironically, your "shit filler" is damn great, to the point that it fits and improves the story and whole experience.

>Improves the story
Yeah because Gon pissing his pants and crying like a bitch is totally not out of character right? Kurapika crying after killing Uvo was stupid as well.
99 does have some really well animated parts but most of it looks like shit. The first part of Gon v Hanzo is so over dramatic and uses awful smearing.
>Yeah because Gon pissing his pants and crying like a bitch is totally not out of character right?
it's not. It demonstrates how weak he actually is during that time, and does not make him into a Gary Stu who just sits off a poison said to paralyze a grown man for a full week.
All in all, I see you just love lack of animation, zero world and character building, and CYMK color palettes with near zero shading.
Gon has no spunk. He's just constantly getting underestimated because of his pure personality and underneath that is a hard worker that will surprise you.
but it's that innocent personality that I find extremely boring.
Gin is both selfish and humble, he has flaws that don't weight down on him as a character, makes him more interesting and feels more human.
Gin would make a better main character than Gon.
To be fair, Killua was never a serial killer, he was an assassin, and he quit.
Gon's morality is basically like "if you have a reason behind what you do it's okay as long as you're nice to me and don't hurt my friends." Hence why he's effectively come to terms with all his enemies bar the phantom troupe, who has no reason for what they do
>but it's that innocent personality that I find extremely boring.
and I find it extremely refreshing. He's not a "I'm no good for anyone" beta fag, not a clumsy airhead, nor an edgy grimdark chuuni... he's a country kid that behaves like a dog and shuffles the daily decks of everyone else by not fitting in the mold and fitting into modern prejudiced roles.
when you put it that way he is refreshing, but I just hate how the characters outside his friends see him as this angelic being capable of changing lives by just interacting with him. I'm specifically talking about Shoot and Knuckles.
Then again, it's charisma that attract people to him the same way people in the One Piece World are attracted to Luffy.
Honestly I think Yoh Asakura's laid back personality, after already having gone through his edgy phase in the oneshot, or Kakashi's transition to adulthood, both share a similar relaxed air around them that I really like. Yoh was one of the best main characters stuck in a manga with wasted potential. Gon is just absolutely boring, but it's that plainess that people love about him in his world which I find ridiculous.
Gon's a good kid but even when his personality doesn't make me root for him his powers fail me as well. Killua uses his yo-yos twice, is versatile in fighting so I don't get bored of any of his fights, his introduction to Godspeed ability agains Youpi was extremely well handled. Also seeing him break out of his shell in Chimera Ants to make freinds with Octopus and Palm were endearing. The massacre he went on after all those ants that lead him to the incestous fish couple was great. Kurapika has tons of variety in abilities and character. Leorio is currently underused.
I understand what Gon's personality is going for but he gets outshined by everyone both personality wise and power wise. Even his father is more interesting than him.
At least he isn't as bad as Ichigo but that isn't saying much. It's just irritating to have a manga that's so rich of diverse unique characters and I'm stuck with a boring country kid as a protagonist. Yeah I see the point that it might bring out the traits of everyone that surrounds him, and by being the most normal one, makes him stand out more himself. \
>inb4 someone calls me a 2011 fag
I read the manga
>I understand what Gon's personality is going for but he gets outshined by everyone both personality wise and power wise.
Reminder that Gon's moveset would have been lit as fuck if he had JUST KEPT THAT DAMN FISHING POLE
Well, that was easy.
>gets really angry and edgey once
>gets revenge while willing to sacrifice everything
>gets healed and goes back to having the exact same personality with no change
>anon thinks it's development.
Its a meme to call Shinji a wimp but this bitch takes it much further than Shinji ever did, he only sat out for 2 episodes when she was crying like a little girl for most of the runtime
That's wrong tho. Seriously, for a battle shonen MC Gon is pretty much good. Not the best, but still better than most of the others.
And the 2011 anime is great. It's pretty much a fact.
>she toughened up
then went back to being a little bitch again, She even had her own training montage but it might as well not have happened with how little it impacted anything
>Doesn't kill anyone at all during the story even the most fucked up villains that should be put down
>Kills the sweet catgirl just because this time someone close to him got hurt and even then he get asspulled back to life so his revenge and sacrifice were for nothing.
Gon is a faggot and I'm glad he is no longer the MC.
>for a battle shonen MC Gon is pretty much good. Not the best, but still better than most of the others.
>He's only good because the "genre" is filled with shitters
Bad reason desu
He's fun and likable at the start but once the plot starts to get serious and he keeps his no hurting people rule he's just an insufferable whiny shit.
>5 chapters as a moderately interesting guy
>Become a plank of wood that just gets more and more OP powers as the story goes on
>Still jobs despite having all the powers of perfect Kars, invincible damage redirecting animals at his command, self-healing, and MUDA MUDA.
>Gets the biggest asspull in the series that literally is never addressed again.
Seriously without Mista and Bruno, Vento would be nearly unreadable with how much they have to carry the story.
Leorio never appears. He's basically a supporting cast member who pops up every once in a while. You'd think his medical hunter shit would have pop'd up more in the Chinera Ant bullshit.
Pitou could of been redeemed and joined forces with Leorio to become the greatest doctors ever.
Leorio, Kirapika, and Ging are the MCs now at least.
not this fucking meme again
he's a good person, the Gon we see in Chimera Ants is broken because it was the first time he felt responsible for someone's death and blamed it on his own weakness.
Him threatening Komugi's safety was a moment of weakness.
Gon's like Luffy, they both only care about the personal impressions they get from people and their own freedom, but they still stand in the side of good at the very end.
Don't make Gon to be some twisted sociopath when he is able to sympathize with people. He was even angry at the Ryodan for the Kurta massacre and felt conflicted that his view of evil didn't align with the reality he was seeing the the York New arc: The Ryodan acting like a family. A morally twisted character wouldn't feel conflicted in seeing terrible people behave humanely.
Also, Gon takes after his father when it comes to seeing the good in people.
What outward personality change were you expecting? His demeanor clearly changed after what happened with how he spoke to Kite and the self-deprecating he gave when speaking to Mito.
Surely I'm not the only one who instantly thought of pic related
Worst Jojo, because of her the universe got reset.
This guy is the only MC to ever make me drop a series on being so shit alone, and I sat through Arachnid and Wolf-Guy.
You faggots like to cry edgy on damn near everything, but this guy was ridiculous, doesn't help that he regularly kills off character's far more endearing and entertaining then he himself is then whines about how hard he has it.
