My understanding of how yuusha bloodlines work is that even if a yuusha doesn't procreate (probably because she was KIA), someone else in her bloodline will eventually rise up as yuusha. Indeed, having a reliable genetic pool of yuusha is probably why the bloodlines are so important to the Taisha.

Sonoko is unlikely to be a direct descendant of Wakaba; maybe she's a descendant of Wakaba's cousin (who can be male or female).

The downside of this is that if a yuusha betray the Taisha, her bloodline is likely to be purged. You don't want to raise a potential traitor.
