Even being a sequel oa show/OVAs Next Gen Patlabor episodes are almost live action remakes of anime version. Also the main cast are "clones" of original main cast.

Shinobu Nagumo created a security company and employed Isao Ota and Mikiyasu Shinshi. However bad management bankrupted it within a year. Shinshi later formed his own successful software company. Ota is currently in prison for assault. Shinobu is apparently working for the UNHCR in a Middle Eastern country. Kiichi Gotoh's whereabouts are unknown. Shige thought the second generation which followed in the original SV2's footsteps where so mediocre that he no longer remembers their names.

This, I think the Rurouni Kenshin LAs turned out pretty damn good. The fights were pretty great and the acting was ok, which by live action adaption standards is Oscar worthy.

The MC's girlfriend has a bigger role in the story and it takes place after the tsunami that hit Sendai.
The biggest change is that the main character doesn't kill himself, because the director thought it would be too depressing of a story for Japanese to see after the earthquake/tsunami. So he gave it an ending about hope and rebuilding oneself instead of falling into despair.

A lot of people like to hate on G-Savior for being a B-movie made in canada, but if you actually watch it and take the source material into consideration you'll find that it's one of the few adaptions of an anime that has a tone, atmosphere and lore consistent with its setting.

I think of the 2005 Hana Yori Dango as being the best anime adaptation I've ever seen. It really brings out the best of HYD and the characters of Doumyouji and Tsukishi while leaving behind the filler. (And not doing that obnoxious thing so many Japanese adaptations do where they try to translate the slapstick manga into real life).

Can't believe no-one mentioned Helter Skelter, though I think that might be because the movie is more popular than the manga it was based off of. The movie is visually incredible and an amazing experience, I'd say it's even better than the source material.

Don't listen to /a/'s opinion about this drama. This drama is actually well executed considering it's anime-esque like setting. It shouldn't be cringy if you're well familiar with Japanese live action acting. I really recommend this drama even if you're not a Nisio fan.

I just got done watching this a few weeks ago. I was surprised at how good it was. It made some deviations from the manga of course, and they didn't have my favorite character, but that was a damn good live action adaptation.
