As someone who found this franchise through the manga, I thought Jinto's hair looked weird. Every time I saw him. For the entire anime.
>>
>>157274073
I dont like the new manga's art style. It has a unique look I dont care for, it almost seems western.
>>
>>157271638

Lafiel? You okay, pumpkin?
>>
>>157277101
Someone else, at last. I can sort of see the appeal, but something about it just throws me off, particularly the expressions.
>>
>>157277264
Lafiels face looks really stylized. I dont Like the eyeliner like effect the artist uses around eyes ether.

The artist does'nt have the soft lines that most anime and manga have, and while some might say it looks more realistic it doesn't appeal to me
>>
>>157277101
>>157277264
I don't mind the art style, but the expressions are bugging me a bit. She isn't supposed to very expressive, apart from a few key moments. The slasher grin she gave Febdash wouldn't have been anywhere near as impactful if she'd been like this during the first part of the show.
>>
>>157271638
I'm not sure if I will like Lafiel that looks like that in real life
The anime version was way rounder and cute and had a humane touch to it

Obviously, to each their own, but it's nice to get some variety. Also, realistic? No. Stylized, yes. Personally, I think the new art is stunning.I never really cared for the style of the anime version.

>>157277433
Honestly, this is my only issue - she's way too expressive. It's out of character. Other than that, though... it's like I've fallen in love all over again.

For some reason her relationship with Jinto seems kind of tragic.

When Jinto dies she won't even be middle aged.

My impression is that the gene modification technologies only work on zygotes and the like.

>>
>>157278518
>>157278664
Not him, but I watched the anime, and I don't remember this. In fact, what I do remember is a scene where they talk about the future for whatever reason, and Jinto thinks to himself that it hasn't even dawned on her that he'll be old or dead by then and she'll still be the same.
>>

The scene where they're together in the rocketcoffin.

>>157278737

>>
>>157278637
>gene modification technologies only work on zygotes and the like.
Oh, right, I see. Guess Jinto's going to die well before her afterall.
>>
>>157278800
>She seriously wants to kill herself when Jinto dies?
...that doesn't sound right to me at all. Been a long time since I watched the anime, though. Still, I'm skeptical.
>>
>>157279541
>Oh, right, I see. Guess Jinto's going to die well before her afterall.

I'm kind of hoping the author retconned this tidbit in later novels. Maybe a new technology that could extend Jinto's lifespan or something.

Which is why I'm curious if there's anyone who has read the LN that could clarify.
>>
>>157280741
>that doesn't sound right to me at all.

>>
>>157280892
>this time around
It's not like it's never been solved before. Arwen becoming human, for one. There are various ways to approach it.
>>
>>157278737
All I remember there is Jinto's resolution that when he dies it will be by her side, or they go together. I don't think it's dawned on her that he'll die before she does.

>making your immortal elf waifu give up her immortality

Now were just back to her offing herself at the funeral.
>>
>>157286685
>making
No one's making anyone do anything, it's their choice. I mean, in LotR it's a bit different since I think it's basically presented as a preset choice - either marry him and be human, or don't and be an elf; there are real human-elf pairings, but I don't remember that possibility for Arwen/Aragorn ever being raised. In a broader context, though, while you want the elf to outlive you and be happy, they might not want to and might not be happy doing that. Like others said, though, there's been no actual indication about that either way in this series.
>>
>>157286892
The war could also go straight down the shitter for Abhs and render the question moot. I hope it doesn't though.
>>
>>157286975
What, as in the Empire gets overthrown and they both get killed? That'd be one hell of a depressing ending.
>>
>>157287235
Too depressing to be a viable option, I hope.

Didn't someone say that it's indicated the Abhs lost in the end, though?
>>
>>157289053
Apparently, the United Mankind, despite generally losing to Abh, in the latest novels manage to make a successful surprise attack on the Abh capital, and the Empress leads a small fleet to hold them off while civilians and other important things are evacuated. She dies. Nothing about a definite loss, though.
>>
>>157289762

Wait,

I don't quite remember this. My impression was that Aragorn would live for centuries, anyway, given that he's one of the last Numenor (ironically, a lifespan longer than the Abh) but that he would eventually die and leave Arwen behind.

The tipping point was Arwen realizing she'd have kids with him, that even when he died some part of him would live on.

>>
>>157291624
Aragorn would live a long time for sure--he's 80 during the events of the books--and Arwen isn't pure elf either. Elrond was half-human. Half-elves in Tolkien choose which path to follow--immortality, up to and including reincarnation with the Valar should they die, which is the fate of the Elves, or to die like Men, whose souls depart Middle-Earth to an unknown destination. Arwen "gave up her life" a year after Aragorn died, according to wiki.

Not that bad if they had lived long lives and died in together eachother's arms but I'm a sucker for classical tradgedy faggotry like that and fully understand most people think it's horseshit.
>>
>>157291839
I'm a sucker for tragedy, too, but getting killed while losing the war isn't the same thing as dying on some last expedition at the end of your life or whatever. It would just be everyone we root for losing entirely.

I'm playing an Abh empure of sorts in Stellaris.

I just wish the combat in the game was more satisfying. Like maybe giving the player the ability to either auto-resolve fights or slowing the overarching galactic time to a crawl in systems.

I mean, yeah, you can customize your battlefleet and choose your admirals and whatnot, and the fights can look spectacular. But you get no fine control to the extent you can actually strategize, perhaps even destroy larger fleets with clever tactics.

>>157278313
>>157297238

They were winning the war quite splendidly, until united mankind goes back on their surrender and executes a surprise attack on the capital. They manage to destroy the capital and kill pretty much the entire royal family who stayed behind in defense. Lafiel is set up to be the next queen and is pretty bent on the war once again. Jinto is her only moral compass at this point really.

And no Jinto can't modiy his own genes. He is going to die much sooner and they both know it, but keep skirting around it.
>>
>>157297731

The age difference has always been a constant obstacle in their relationship, especially in jinto's eyes. Although, lafiel has started to take notice of this as well. It is standard for the abh, much less the royal family, to serve for long periods of time in the military before even thinking about settling down. He will be well on his way to being an old man by the time she gets done. The war certainly isn't helping either. They both have a strong sense of duty and won't abandon their respective responsibilities.

>>157303971

They're definitely best early expansion. Tarka can feel pretty slow early game, but later on being able to do deep space interceptions is nice.

>>157304056
>Who is the best?

None, really, it's pretty well balanced and each race plays extremely differently because of different FTL capabilities. The two strongest factions aren't even player-controlled factions but instead are the unknown deep space menaces like the locust swarm or an AI rebellion.

>Also does SotS play like a typical 4x where you are supposed to grab as much land as you can when you start?

Yes, it helps but races compete to grab the most suitable planets specific to their own races compatibility, so they put in the least amount of effort terraforming. Setting up trade lets you punch well above your weight with what you have, though.
>>
>>157304122
Is the trade game fun?
>>
>>157304189

It's interesting in how it's set up but I don't know if I'd call it fun, more a means to an end. You pretty much try to saturate your trade routes with enough freighters while enemies can send raider fleets with their own stealth mechanics to try and intercept your freighters, ruin your commerce while giving themselves a boon.

So it comes down to a trade war between defending my fleets and ruining the enemy's?

When do I make a glorious caravan?
>>
>>157304333

It can, trade can help with expenses which becomes a big deal in waging war.

You don't make a caravan, you populate certain sectors with traders that saturate to a certain amount while being able to also place protection vessels in those sectors. If any enemy raiders come in to try and disrupt trading you have a chance at intercepting them.

Generally smaller ships are used for raiding because they are harder to detect.

You also might not always been waging war, typically every game I play I usually end up allying with the space dolphins because they're pretty friendly guys to my race.

The United Mankind, the second most developed space nation after Abh, are so bonkers about the species purity that they hate all gene modifications, including lifespan-prolonging ones. So they treat all altered humans as subhumans, not just Abh. And Abh are humans, they even call themselves the Humankind Empire of Abh.
>>
>>157307858
>How many years in the future does the series take place
The events at the start of the novel / manga / anime take place at least 2,000 years after humans had left Earth to colonize other worlds.

>how come only the elves get life expectancy
Short version, isolationist space japanese conducted illegal experiments to create a slave race. The slave race later wiped out their creators, and because they felt bad about that, they decide they would bring peace to all humans... by conquering them and ruling over them. Needless to say, the consequences have left some groups with some strong feelings regarding genetic manipulation.

It's actually kinda similar to Star Trek in that way. The Eugenics Wars were devastating enough to cause the eventual Federation to more or less ban most genetic enhancing for centuries.

>Second, don't the space elves have an additional organ in them that helps them pilot a lot better?
Yeah, they have a sensory organ on their forehead and an adapted portion of their brain to make sure of the input that organ provides.

Gene modification is taboo because Space Elves are all about gene modification and Space Elves are the Space Bogeymen of Space.
That said, there /are/ Space non-Elves doing gene modification. Generally not as well, but certainly not badly.

The inspector dude in Crest of the Stars was gene modified.
He really, really hated the Abh because he got flak for being subhuman filth, while the Space Elves didn't have to put up with similar things in Space Elfland.

Then again its possible to take advantage of enemy fleets and tactical system position, catching smaller enemy fleets piecemeal before they join up into an unstoppable blob.

There was also the other time I screwed over the unbidden ai by sending small corvettes one at a time into their gate system (which basically calls all their fleets home) so that I could find and fuck over each fleet individually.

I'm pretty sure that Plakia said something like "why would they return if they knew nothing was here anymore". And then the narrator said something like that some ships spread their wings and flew far away (probably talked about ships that had the plane space travel technology and managed to get to the far reaches of the galaxy) while others were forced to navigate the space normally and then returned to where they started. Which was the original space fortress, which must have been near the Earth, right? Also, Abh were supposed to be living machines created for space explorations and were programmed to return home with their findings. I agree that the years don't add up but except that it made sense to me.
