I feel like there are some ways to manipulate this though.
Like, if you used a weapon with some incredibly low heat capacity you could essentially make it molten hot without ever cooling down, or near absolute zero without ever increasing in heat. Then if the bottom of the weapon was room temperature but the end was the extreme temperature, you'd still be able to hold it while instantly melting / freezing whoever you hit with it.
