Gotten 20 episodes into Soreyuke Uchuu Senkan Yamamoto Yohko, only 6 left. The music is pretty cool, I like it much. And it's interesting enough.
Between "good" and "bad", I'd pick good, but it's not mindblowing so it wouldn't be my first word to describe it either.

I'm curious about the title. It's similar to "Uchuu Senkan Yamato", but in this case the name is the battleship. Does Japanese grammar allow a different meaning too? I'm wondering if there could be some deep meaning that she actually is a battleship? Japanese grammar lessons please

I finished the encode for Pinnochio. I uploaded it to Youtube instead because Dailymotion has a dumb daily upload limit. I'm trying to keep the filesizes down because I don't have much space available (and I can't seed 25gb+ rips), so someone else should encode these themselves if they want to sub it, because I don't know anything about quality encodes (and these aren't meant for archival anyway). I'll make a torrent in a bit after I ask a guy who has a seedbox. The DVDs are on AB if you want to get them. I will probably do Marude Dameo next, since that doesn't seem to have a full rip available. Otherwise I'm going down AB's better.php list for series that are DVD ISO-only.

I finished Do You Remember Love next week and just finished Macross 7 as well as Encore and the "movie" today. I've got three more episodes of Dynamite left which I'll be finishing off tomorrow. Good stuff, especially DYRL which was a GOAT movie, but 7 was fun too despite what gets said about it.

I actually watched SDF and Frontier a while ago and Delta while it aired so when I finish this up, I'll probably go on to Plus and then the Frontier movies to complete the series this time around. I think having a gap before watching the movie versions of SDF and F was a good idea.

Why was Deedlit even in the party to begin with?

She's just kinda hanging out outside the village for whatever reason before the village gets attacked, seems to investigate the goblins on her own as they start to attack, then joins the party despite having zero personal investment in what's going on.

She just kind of decides to get involved for no reason even though she has no relationship with anybody or any sort of personal investment. And then proceeds to fawn over Parn's generic heroness despite him not giving her so much as a sideways glance for most of the show.

I suppose "I felt like it" is a good enough reason as any for a show with paper-thin characters like Lodoss.

I do usually like Rachel Lillis, I think she's best when she can cut loose and go crazy. Like Martina in Slayers or Misty and Jessie in Pokemon. She's not bad at all as Yuriko, just under-played. The robot spy chick was pretty bad.

I just finished Soreyuku Uchuu Senkan Yamamoto Yohko.
It was pretty good, but it's "anime". Interesting, and while it does its own things, it also feels like a "supernatural space" anime, like Outlaw Star, storywise. Not to say it's fantasy, it just has some supernatural powers in the background at times.
Have to remention the good music, it was pretty cool. And the anime as a whole was pretty good.

I have no idea what the people who say the story is hard to follow are on about, the story structure is fairly standard, you will know how things connect most of the time. It's no more confusing than what you would expect from an anime.

The fansubbers were pretty cool at the credits of the last episode, added some trivia about some staff. The voice of Yamamoto Yohko worked on Escaflowne, and Ayano was Asuka in Eva, and the director worked on Nanoha and Pani Poni Dash. They also credited both the original sub group that dropped it, and themselves, and added that it was subbed from 2004 to 2006. And then, after the final credits, the characters song a song about fansubbing being fun. Probably not an accurate translation, but when the show is over it's okay that they make themselves visible

I went through a recent go nagai binge watch. Started out by reading through most of the manga series and then watching the series for them. Anyone have some recommendations for more series that can scratch that Uncle Go itch? I just love the hot blooded violence that's one of Uncle Go's trademarks. The OVA series follows the manga more closely than does the TV series, which veers off on its own batshit course. The TV series has its high points (the most notable being the soundtrack), but it's generally agreed upon that the OVA is the better adaptation.

I'd say watch the OVA or read the manga, and if you like it then give the TV series a go.
