Because this show has a terrible setting and absolutely nothing makes sense so why not?

Adult characters have zero presence, seem entirely oblivious to rampant campus-wide destruction, somehow allow hazardous traps inside living quarters, are okay with a giant tamed bear roaming about, accept armed students, and have turned a blind eye to forced transvestism. So what difference does adding a torture chamber or two make? The setting will allow anything and thus serves no purpose, since settings exist to limit actions and possibilities to ones congruent with it. A setting that permits anything provides no limits, cohesion, or purpose, and undermines both suspense of disbelief and immersion.

The advantages gained by having a cooler than usual protagonist are undermined by the trivial nature of the other characters-- honestly, the Grisaia girls could save this, but this really isn't a show for anything but surface level entertainment. Which it does deliver so that's fine.
