It was way less funny. It was mostly just skipping between Satan trying to explain the others' powers, Goku and Cell being gay, and "We Are Number One" pasted over a fight scene. Maybe one or two decent little lines in between it all.

Shit came out relatively quickly for once, but sucked a lot.

I smirked at a few lines but overall not very funny. Hard to say what's causing it. Maybe this arc just doesn't have many potential jokes, maybe they've forgotten it was supposed to be funny altogether and have just started doing their own normal fandub with occasional weird/snarky lines.

Might be this. Last time I belly laughed at anything TFS related was in season 3. After Imperfect Cell it just wasn't that funny anymore. When you rely so heavily on repackaging jokes, which was already getting a little annoying in season 2, you're gonna kill your audience's patience. There are 57 "chapters" so far to Multiverse. 28 of them are "specials" of some sort. TWENTY-EIGHT. Nearly half of it is filler. Actually, no, it's worse than filler; it's greatly extrapolated backstories that come out at random and break any sort of flow the comic had, while giving information that we either already knew, could easily guess, or are completely irrelevant to the story.

In addition, the obsession with Specials has somehow managed to neglect some of the more interesting possibilities presented, namely the Humanverse that managed to save the Earth without the help of any aliens. Let's not forget the fact that there are FIVE different, multi-chapter text fanfics that are linked to the story, that the authors assume you've read when they throw in characters like Hanasia (aka how to make Gine look like a good character by comparison) at the reader of the comic. Making things even BETTER, their fanfics have managed to ruin Vegito worse than even Super could manage.

It still is shorter, but the problem is multifaceted. The Cell arc in particular drags because it was switched up so much and there's actually a complicated time travel nonsense going on, plus they're actually giving room to show the characters' development since they're finally getting it. Then you need to remember that these guys are now trying to keep a fucking company alive and everyone paid for their work, which means pandering and trying to pre-empt their hits as merch to bank on as much potential as possible. The gaming stuff is just dedicated consistent content from the group that gives them things to do and to entertain, and is hit or miss as all gaming shit is. (though the Memebois are by far the best thing out of it)

All this stuff thrown in means they pump the brakes on pure quality and more attention to other areas. Rewatching the whole Cell saga you almost can appreciate some of the jokes they've carried along, but it's still lost some of that initial charm now that it's become such an entrenched thing. Plus, I'm willing to give this episode a kind of a pass since the point of this part is that Goku is really just fuckin around to test Cell and so isn't going all out, much as he wants. Depending on how faithful they are to that, will see, but as is I can hope they've saved the best for last.

YGOTAS hit a downward slope once it was nothing but repeating character gags, and there really is only so much mileage to get out of the absurdity of the concept. Their use of the characters and footage is transformative because it is a parody. The idea that you have that they are misusing fair use by making a profit off their transformed work is totally incorrect. Fair Use does not demand that the use of the IP in question be non-profit in any way, shape or form. Non-profit works are more likely to earn fair use protection, but it is not a requirement provided the use is sufficiently transformative in nature. The thing about TFS and other abridgers that is hard to define is that the thing that they make, the abridge itself, is absolutely 100% fair use, full stop, and then they make T-shirts based off the thing they made, NOT off the original. But the T-shirts sometimes include things which could be CONFUSED for the original rather than the thing they made, and that is legally relevant.

This is why its a grey area. Until a court rules on how it applies to the current strata of copyright laws, we can't know if TFS's shirts are crossing the line or not. And, as mentioned above, its actually on TOEI's best interest to not test that as all indicators are that they would lose, and losing would do a million times more damage to their profits than literally any amount of shirts TFS could ever hope to sell.

Ehhh, considering what they accomplished humor-wise during the Freeza battle and several of the Android battles (I laughed quite a bit during Vegeta vs 19, Vegeta vs 18, and Piccolo vs 17 (+ Cell)), I think you're reaching a bit. They should have been able to do more with this part.

The problem as I see it is that they devoted way too much of this episode's real estate to the Satan gimmick, which is basically just "Satan does what he did in the show, but we also cut away to the people of Earth agreeing with his bullshit in deadpan." Like, I get the gag, but it didn't work for me and since that was like a full third of the jokes it fell flat for me.

I think they nailed Cell tho.
I really dig the idea of Cell being a smug sarcastic asshole that pretends his is part of the gang just because he shares some DNA with them.
Maybe it's just because i only ever read the manga for DBZ but i remember Cell as a character was fucking awesome and hype as shit when he was first introduced in his first form.
And after that he just become boring.
Perfect Cell is by far the worst of the big 3 villains in my opinion.

Toriyama tends not to really bother with the smaller details. The fundamental issue is that Freezer wasn't even conceived when this whole "space pirate" concept originally popped up. Initially, the Saiyans were the space pirates. They wipe out all life on a planet then sell it to the highest bidder. But then it turned out that Vegeta had a boss. And then it turned out that Vegeta's boss was literally the most powerful being in the living realm, below the gods and demons. But the fact that Vegeta was a space pirate didn't change, and if he's working for someone else, then that person must also be a space pirate.

Planet Vegeta's end was also a load of hoshposh. Originally, the planet was wiped out by a gigantic meteorite, or so said King Kai. But then it turned out that Freezer was the one who did it. First off, the average Saiyan should be easily strong enough to destroy a celestial body or two, so the idea of a meteor destroying their body is ludicrous. Second, there is no way that King Kai would be unaware of the fact the Freezer was the one who destroyed Planet Vegeta.
