>>157139196
That doesn't really count since that is after the fact. The entire point is that the anime fucked up by withholding information related to the dramatic stakes of the arc. Based on the information presented up to that exact point, the audience had only one minor reason to suspect Fool's World would negate curses (Celica saying that Glenn and only Glenn could fix the situation by showing up in front of the queen) despite the first arc resolving under the opposite principle. It literally would have been better to cut Sisti's fight in order to explain how curses work before the entire arc hinges on those mechanics.
>>157139363
That was dumb too.
>>157139307
If it is, that's really interesting, because...
>The Fool is unnumbered; sometimes represented as 0 (the first) or XXII (the last) Major Arcana in decks
>>157139398
Not to make excuses because I haven't watched the anime, but I don't think it's too much of a stretch to deduce that the Fool broke the curse because it prevented the activation of the spell that would deal the harmful effects.
>>157139398
This
>>157134475
What kind of psychopath cut off the poor girl's feet?
>>157139454
It is a stretch, a 50/50 stretch for whether any particular viewer would decide "the curse is already placed so The Fool can't negate it, how will he solve this?" or "the curse is placed but hasn't triggered so he can prevent it by getting close with The Fool." Considering the climatic point of the last arc was "spells already in effect can't be stopped," it is a pretty important distinction that curses do in fact work differently.
>>157139634
The way I saw it, the curse is like a bomb placed on the necklace. It can't remove the bomb, but it prevents the signal to detonate from working, which is why she could remove it harmlessly.
I honestly don't think a lot of explanation was needed for it, but I guess not everyone may make the connection right away.
>>157139740
You made an assumption and happened to be correct, but I'd argue it was illogical based on the information that was presented. Placing the curse (which then somehow monitors the actions of the queen and everyone around her) is magic. There was never a reason to think that the detonation was a separate instance of magic because the scene that was supposed to explain the difference was cut down to the single phrase "they used conditional magic to win" which doesn't even cover the fact that the triggered effect is separate.
It would be the same as removing the scene where Glenn used the transformation magic and then suddenly he and Albert do the illusion swap.
>>157140013
>There was never a reason to think that the detonation was a separate instance of magic
I disagree. It is a simple deduction based on the fact that the queen would die or whatever based upon a condition. Meaning upon the condition being met, the killing spell would activate. So the Fool would naturally nullify it.
Did they explain it beforehand in the manga? I don't remember if they did.
>>157129945
Sisti > Riel > Lumia > Old Hag
>>157140102
That isn't a simply deduction, you assumed that the "kill" part of the curse was separate from the condition-seeking part. Based on the first arc, magic that is already in place can't be negated. Until it was revealed that curses are two-part spells, the curse being placed and becoming active (monitoring for a trigger) would have a careful observer understand that the curse can't be negated. There was nothing to suggest that a conditional trigger counted as the activation rather than the placing of the curse itself, and that pattern goes against the pattern established in the first arc. The only hint that it should have worked is that Celica said only Glenn could do it, but at that point you have to just assume that he can negate curses rather than having any idea of why.
Sisti is for Anal sex, Rumia is for Vanilla Missionary sex, Re=l is for....?
>>157140413
>That isn't a simply deduction, you assumed that the "kill" part of the curse was separate from the condition-seeking part. Based on the first arc, magic that is already in place can't be negated.
Because if the "kill" part was active, she WOULD BE DEAD.
>>157140467
The dude in the first arc had an active spell which hadn't yet taken effect. The curse (until it was explained otherwise) was an active spell which hadn't yet taken effect.

>>157140558
>The dude in the first arc had an active spell which hadn't yet taken effect.
Which?
And here's the long and short of it:
You can assume that the spell is 2 part, or not. BUT when Glenn uses the card and it works, there's no need for further explanation because the fact that it works excludes the possibility of it NOT being 2-part.
>>157140604

>>157140610
The suicide bomber/teleporter dude.
You're right, there was no need for further explanation. However, because it wasn't explained why it would work BEFORE it did, it was essentially an asspull. I don't give a shit about the aftermath of that moment, I'm only talking about how the anime fucked up the tension of the arc by misleading the audience. In essence, only people who made the assumption that curses work differently (without being told they do) understood what the situation was going into the climax.
>>157140834
Twists and asspulls aren't really the same thing. I will give you that maybe there wasn't enough information to come to a certain conclusion before the fact, but when it happens anyone can see the how and the why, and in my opinion that's enough.
>>157140675
>>157140895
According to the logic of the anime, The Fool should not have worked on the curse, and then it did. That's an asspull. A twist is what happened with the illusion swap, because it was foreshadowed properly so that anyone could have come to the conclusion that they switched places based on the personality quirks shown during the disguised scenes and the previous usage of transformation magic.
If you have to guess to get it right, it's an asspull.
>>157141088
>According to the logic of the anime, The Fool should not have worked on the curse, and then it did.
According to YOUR logic.
The rules which decided it would work were already in place. At worst the only confusion was about the nature of the curse, which is clarified upon Glenn's success. That's why you can instantly know what happens when he does it.The fool nullifies the activation of spells. If it works, the spell wasn't active, if it doesn't, the spell was active beforehand. Simple.
>>157141279
>The rules which decided it would work were already in place
When was it stated that curses work differently from other spells BEFORE that scene?
Holy shit I hope you are trolling at this point
>>157141335
>When was it stated that curses work differently from other spells BEFORE that scene?
It doesn't have to be stated. The fact that the fool works demonstrates it works that way. Same way the fact that it didn't work on the magic circle demonstrates the entire spell was active from before the fool's activation.
I mean, your complaint could just as easily have been directed at the climax of the previous arc. "Where was it stated that magic circles can activate multiple effects thought the Fool"? Which is the asspull? Are both asspulls?

>>157142156
I consider the circle spell to be active. That means that it's already activated but it takes time for the effect to occur.
Curses are active as well. For curses conditions must be met in order to activate the effects of the curse. The curse then causes the activation of another spell which then affects the user. Fools world may not prevent the curse, but it can prevent the curses effect of activation for another spell
Anyone else love Sisti and Rumia's friendship? It's so sweet.

>>157142530

>The curse then causes the activation of another spell
Is not explained until it happens and is therefore an asspull. It doesn't matter if it is then explained, you cannot predict that outcome based on the prior information given by the show. In fact, almost all of the given information should have led you to doubt that The Fool would work. It seems your short term recall is poor as well.

>arranged marriage to a villain arc with dead waifu drama
>rescue lumia again arc with a side dish of "the quirky loli actually has a dark past that makes her turn traitor for five minutes before being befriended again" (and Sisti sleeps through the climax again because she heals Glenn)
We're guaranteed to get the most generic parts of the series and miss out on
>Glenn has to gather a party to go dungeon crawling, Celica does stuff and reveals her past
>dance competition of doom
>Celica tongue fucks Glenn until he turns into a girl so that the gang can infiltrate St. Yuri Academy where there's a yuri gang war
The only interesting thing we have to look forward to is to see how they end up adapting the actual "please kill me I'm a limbless body in a vat" mana battery they find. It might just get cut entirely.
It's definitely better than the average for this type of show, but I feel like it's already missed its mark by bringing in all of the generic elements to move "the plot" forward when the entire draw of Glenn's situation is that he was supposed to be a cynical washout trying to cope with having been a contract killer. He basically got over most of it in a week after making fun of a girl being assaulted and being reminded that healing spells actually do exist so magic isn't just for murder after all.
Plus the author is probably going to have Sisti assume the mantle of waifu when Celica fits in with the compelling aspects of Glenn's character rather than just looking like his dead girlfriend. She's even starting to accumulate death flags by introducing the concept of seeking a cure to her immortality and Glenn getting told he will have to sacrifice something if the actual plot ever shows up.
And to add to that, the anime has already been cutting content in order to power through two volumes while the rescue Lumia arc is itself two volumes with the arranged marriage being a third. Unless Mr. Justice is just posing in the OP and that last volume won't be covered, the pacing might get even worse from here on.
There were also things that were straight butchered such as Glenn's fight against the sword mage in which he was supposed to bait out non-lethal hits like an expert instead of just face tanking. I understood what was supposed to be happening when I saw it, but gods damn that was lazy.
The anime isn't good, and who knows about the LN since it would seem to have the same narrative problems. Maybe the author can actually make Sisti and Lumia enjoyable rather than generic in the prose, but a high-speed adaption has done his work no favors (other than animating Celica). There are just enough good points, in terms of the story itself as well as the adaption, that a lot of people can find something into which to sink their teeth.
