I remember Bleach when they said in the beginning that those Menos Grande or whatever they were called was a bunch of hollows put together, and was a force to be reckoned with.

Later on they one shotted them without problems. That was pretty sad.

Pretty sure he only kept his brain open to listen and communicate with all the refugees. His goal was for everyone to upload their consciousnesses to the net but this never happened, but it's implied he does this to himself just before he's killed at the end.
