Thanks I wouldn't have realized that after the potato chip eating scene at the start of the episode.

Wow anon, you're so intelligent
Remember when FFF did subs for Gintama on crunchyroll.. Those were the days
I'm only halfway through this episode, and I've counted no less than ten (10) translator notes, not a single one of them even slightly necessary. There are two seperate sub tracks from two different groups in this release, and both of them are like this.
Mid-2000s fansubs might be the most embarrassing part of western anime culture.

You might dislike it but I really liked those kind of things back in the day as they gave me at least a heads-up of something that otherwise would've been over my head.
I remember the only reason I watched Shakugan no Shana was because the opening and some lines were referenced in Nogizaka Haruka no Himitsu and some sub pointed it out for example.
Nothing is more patronizing than a translator explaining common english words to you.
that's what you get for watching shit.

Would it be weird if I left a comment on the scanlator's website suggesting that they stop doing this? These are common words for a native english speaker to have in their vocabulary. And if they weren't we could still figure it out by context.

God I fucking hate notes. Even if something is a reference to some arcane nip cultural shit, just let it slide. If I don't GET a reference, that's my own damn fault. Imagine if somebody went through and added a subtitle track to Catcher in The Rye explaining all the intertextual symbolism?
>wanna jack off to some loli hentai
>instead, bombarded by extraneous notes about Japanese culture that I'm probably already aware of.
Thanks, fansubs.

The show is pretty heavy on references. Some people might want to know them.

And the rest of us who aren't retarded are completely taken out of the experience. If you want to understand references then educate yourself, trying to learn about them from a half sentence blurb displayed for 24 frames is only gonna detract from your experience. But if you don't understand that then you're autistic anyway.

Wait, you mean it doesn't mean "Rub a dub dub, thanks for the grub"?

You're saying you are so stupid that you need a heads-up? Wow...

Well excuse us normal folk for not memorizing every bit of knowledge of absolutely everything that has ever happened in every other culture.
