I'm only halfway through this episode, and I've counted no less than ten (10) translator notes, not a single one of them even slightly necessary. There are two seperate sub tracks from two different groups in this release, and both of them are like this.

Mid-2000s fansubs might be the most embarrassing part of western anime culture.

You might dislike it but I really liked those kind of things back in the day as they gave me at least a heads-up of something that otherwise would've been over my head.

I remember the only reason I watched Shakugan no Shana was because the opening and some lines were referenced in Nogizaka Haruka no Himitsu and some sub pointed it out for example.

Would it be weird if I left a comment on the scanlator's website suggesting that they stop doing this? These are common words for a native english speaker to have in their vocabulary. And if they weren't we could still figure it out by context.

God I fucking hate notes. Even if something is a reference to some arcane nip cultural shit, just let it slide. If I don't GET a reference, that's my own damn fault. Imagine if somebody went through and added a subtitle track to Catcher in The Rye explaining all the intertextual symbolism?
