This series has potential. A few things that bothered me this ep:

1.) The animation is really bad. It needs to improve quickly.

2.) Knights of Hanoi being showed as blatantly evil by having Cracking Dragon incinerate people's avatars in the VRAINS world. They would have been more interesting as a grey-area organization.

3.) This is an extension of the first issue but once Playmaker was inside the VRAINS world, they just switch locations in an instant and it wasn't explained except by a falling down animation from the Hanoi mook. There was no sequence and no scene change or purpose behind it.

4.) The fat guy's design is absolutely retarded and watching him brings me physical pain.

You're also talking out of your ass if you think 21 animators on 1 episode is 'small'. There were also 3 animation directors assigned to this episode (usually it's just 1, two at the most), which is often a sign of production troubles and rushing to get it out the door.

Just finished watching the episode.
I'm not a fan of the character designs, and the animation was really iffy but I'll blame that on the multiple animators.
The plot really didn't drag me in and a little more action and less explaination would've been nice.
Here's to hoping once it reaches episode 7 it'll pick up.

Bear in mind that Arc-V was also meant to be more story based and less focused on duels. There were multiple episodes with zero dueling at all and the show was better when it gave its story room to breate.

At the same time, don't think Vrains will be immune to getting fucked over in some way, because Arc-V ultimately went to shit when they started ignoring the plot in favor of shilling cards. Let's not forget the episode where Yuri ignored his own deck in favor of some upcoming release Konami was trying to shill at the time.

It wasn't just the ending, it was the pacing of Synchro followed by the terrible Openings and the shitty build ups for the "antagonists" of the show. Zarc was predictable as fuck and everyone started catching onto Yuya's berserk rampages from Episode 1. It's not good foreshadowing because the execution was mediocre. The "graduation duel" or rather duels for the series was still stupid because Reira was still an infant shitting himself and the clones are never going to seperate from their Standard copies. The duels were, in my eyes. I totally agree with the hotel being a major mark against the arc, but with a few exceptions like OESD vs. Shinji, I found a lot of the Synchro duels really fun.

So i guess I'll say the Synchro DUELS were hype. The actual character interaction left a lot to be desired, as you said. It seemed like we were starting to get somewhere when Sora showed back up, but it petered out again quick.

This, this is my big problem with people saying that Arc-V's first half was great. It was definitely better than what came after it, but the fact is that it relied heavily on setup. Sure, it was hype when it was revealed there were other dimensions based on the previous series. I remember being excited as fuck when I first saw what looked like ruined Heartland in the background in an early ep. But the payoff for all that was fucking dreadful. The early eps don't stand well on their own because they rely so much on hinting at cool things to come that never really do. Not in any decent fashion.
