What gave you that impression? If you're talking about the SoL moments between the Red Queen and Zouroku's family, I think they're building attachment to the characters so that the upcoming suffering hits harder. I didn't read the source material but that didn't look like a comfy anime at all, it felt like a sufferingfest building up.
