Looking at the raw, it really seems like Samon just barely survived. The last 10 chapters were played deadly serious, and the author was wrapping up a lot of loose ends, then right when the final battle was about to end, it threw a curveball and went back to shenanigans last week. DR STONE SPOILER ARE OUT AND IT'S FUCKING HYPE

There's a flashback about the two protagonists childhood and how they wished to do stuff in space and shit, so the smart one started building rockets all his life until he actually shot one into space, but it only managed to take a single picture with the built in camera before getting destroyed. It was a knitted stuffed toy drifting in the atmosphere.

Back in the present Shishio explains some stuff about Senkuu's Body and how he will kill him with a single blow to the neck, so that Senkuu won't feel any pain. Taiju manages to finally reach them, but in front of him Shishio breaks Senkuu's neck who dies instantly.

One to learn superpowers to begin with and another to level up. Both have been short and sweet. They also managed to get in some nice characterisation beyond the power stuff.

Anyway I'm not necessarily disagreeing that it's a bit generic, but the difference in execution is there and that's what separates it from something like Black Clover.

Like Zenitsu is basically the same character as Usopp or Mineta but he's grown on me far faster than either of those two did.

training sequences are going to be part of basically any action series, there's an expectation that the characters will need to work to get stronger and we'll get to see it happen. An odd thing to complain about for this type of series.

There's been no real mention of friends in this, and in fact it's pretty notable because when the main trio first meet each other, they don't really get along! Of course, they're getting closer now, but it's because they've had to train and work together. If you were expecting something else from the magazine of "friendship, effort, victory" then it's your fault for having improper expectations. I actually like it because it's a story about these kids who are alone in the world bonding together (through massacring demons).

The elemental powers and all that shit are sort of obvious kid appeal, I thought the sword styles were dumb at first but they're pretty simplistic and don't really dominate things, it's just characters having names for the moves they do. That stuff takes me back to 90s TV shows where you have characters yelling out the names of their attacks and shit, it's obvious cheese and I wouldn't blame anyone for not liking it, but I find it fun.

The squad leaders are also an obvious cliche, but so far they've had memorable, distinct attributes that make them interesting. I couldn't tell you a single thing about any of the knight squad captains besides Yami if I tried.

I don't actually think comparisons to BC are unfair, as I think they're trying to do similar things - reliable, formula-based battle series that don't try to overcomplicate things. The difference is that KnY has a better feel for its characters, whereas BC barely seems to take anything seriously and has too many characters with weak personalities, and mostly boring adversaries.

That was actually exactly what bugged me about it the first time the sword style showed up, it was like "What is this shit? When did he learn this?".
Most shounen series tend explain the powers too much, this actually felt UNDERwritten, he was busting out moves with us having no real understanding of where they came from or what they do.
I'll just say I got used to it, it's not that big of a problem after the awkward introduction.
