Not so much doing everything wrong as ruining a good premise by including unnecessary heroines and generic plotlines. Glenn's story as a prodigal mage of justice who regrets becoming a state sanctioned murderer would be a good anchor for a series, but Sisti, Lumia, Sera, and Riel are just excess baggage.

This was BY FAR the worst adaption yet. Holy shit this episode was bad compared to LN and manga. They tried waz too hard to stuff everything into a single one to have a proper ending and start but simply felt horrible.

At least the illusion swap was handled better, although I got kind of tired of the "festival scene-running from guards clip-festival scene-running from guards clip." Did we really need to see them running from guards for a second that many times? At that point, fuck the source material and have a clip of "fighting with guards to drive them back."

The only reason I can keep watching this compared to something like Mahouka or Mahou Sensou is that it is a string of looking at things which almost succeeded (compared to utter dross). The original author's construction of the work teeters on the edge of being worthwhile, brought down by every instance where generic answers are used in the narrative or characterization. With the adaption, it seems that if it was a higher priority project with more time for production, some simple changes could make it good.

Fool's world stops magic from activating but it cant stop magic that is already active. A curse counts as magic and it needs to activate to take effect. A dormant curse that actives when certain conditions are met is different from an active curse that is already taking effect in the target.

They isolated the problem and stopped it from activating with the only thing that could stop it from activating so what exactly is the problem there?

Shouldn't the placement of the curse consider it already to be in effect? Remember, the last arc ended with him being unable to use Fool's World to stop the teleportation magic which was already active, but hadn't taken effect. The death curse was already active because it was detecting for death conditions. It contradicts with the schema we were shown before, unless I'm forgetting a scene which carried the implication that curses could be stopped in that way. I guess we could go with "because Celica told Glenn to get to the queen," but I find that a bit weak.

Again, there was a perfect opportunity to show conditional magic being interrupted (or the students having to work together to not get countered) in the competition. It's weird that something like that didn't happen considering all the small clues about the illusion swap. I have to wonder if it came up in the LN but wasn't adapted.

The teleportation circle was active but in the process of being rewritten. He said it would take like half a day for them to change the destination and all. The barriers he had to disable where very much active too. Kind of like a ticking time bomb that is already active and needs to be defused quickly.

Meanwhile, the necklace was like a landmine that would not activate, with the keyword here being activate, until the specified conditions were met. If the conditions weren't activated then the necklace would continue being a regular necklace to the eyes of everyone else and they tried really hard to not accidentally step over the landmine while he figured out the deal and managed to prevent it from ever activating or taking effect.

Yes, you can come up with a reason for it to work that way, but it should have been explained to audience because you can just as easily assume that a curse cannot be dispelled once it is placed. If the curse is checking for trigger conditions, that is pretty convincing as being an activated magic. As a pattern, it is the opposite of what we were shown at the climax of the last arc.

It's a petty detail, but without a prior explanation it certainly could be called an asspull. There was no reason to think that the activation of a curse was at the trigger moment rather than the placing of the curse. In addition, it is a reversal of the narrative in the previous arc. Again, the best way to have done it would be use the students to show the characteristics of curses as was done for transformation.

You can place all the curses you want but they need to be activated to work. And of course they wont be able to activate if there's a spell that prevents them from activating. Don't need to overthink it, sometimes the easiest answer is the correct answer.
