It was a lot like an extra long episode of the show itself, which is to say, really good. There were some moments I think could have been done better but they captured the tone of the show while it was airing really well.

you know what I liked the most? How reasonable, logical and generally not assholish everyone was.

It would have been so easy to have the adults view the bunnies as disposable soldiers and try and force drama that way and they didn't. Rin rin loved those kids and everyone had their backs in way that just brought a smile to my face.

They had no choice but to send them into battle but they all got how fucked up that was and did everything they could to make the kids lives worth something, and they all got pit crews to help them out and it was just really... it was nice.

Well it's less I don't get it more I had a hard time caring. When he's introduced Kazuki doesn't really have much of a personality and neither does anyone else. Shit goes south when Shoko dies but I don't know Shoko and we never see her relationship with any of the others to give impact to her sacrifice. You need to establish the status quo before you uproot it but we hit the ground running without so much as character introductions.

Im happy to pick up shit via osmosis and I don't mind a slower plot, fuck Im on of like 14 people who actually liked M3 but ya gotta give me something to grab onto

The characters do have a lot of personality. You're about to hit the meat of it where people start developing and expanded on. Where all the build up will pay off. The problem with the early episodes you're having is because it's framed in Kazuki's narrow perspective. You're reaching the point that the director change really take hold and the actual perspective begins to expand and establishes the formula for the rest of the series. There's a reason people say it's worth trucking out and why they enjoy it on a rewatch.

One of the things they were trying early on was to frame the situation so you didn't know if the adults really were on the up and up or if they were just using the kids. Which is working in your case because you're still not certain if everything they did was for the best.

Underrated series. That's what happens when it airs alongside two, more hyped mecha series despite ending up the best of them.

The movie was great too, though I'm surprised Team Fawn got an episode to themselves to build into the movie and then ended up being almost completely useless.

It's a good series. We had several good threads on /m/ when we crowdsourced subs.

I think it gets a lot of stigma because of the character designer and the fact that it's got CG mechs, but they really did go above and beyond with the CG, even using speedline bluring on inbetween shots.
