Here's the thing: Terra Formars is a nice story about love, friendship, mutant battles, conspiracies, ancient ayyliens, some gore and the idea of roaches trying to develop their society.

Zetman. Zetman sure has some love, friendship, conspiracies and even mutant battles. And GORE, lots of it. It's also about 900% edgier than Terra Formars.

Technically, this entire series is a 'set-up' for a more traditional toku series. The ending leaves Jin in the position of a Kamen Rider-esque wandering hero. It's pretty much explicit in the epilogue, which shows him doing exactly that.

A) show as much suffering and deaths as possible;
B) let his biggest piece of shit characters stay lively and healthy as long as possible. Like that company bastard who looks like one of the two bodyguards of Kouga's grandfather. I remember him "dying" and telling Kouga his life story and how much of a douchebag he was or something like that. Kouga leaves him and flies away but instead of dying in the damaged building the company bastard gets a fucking jetpack out of somewhere and says it's not the time yet.

Did you forget about Kuka and have a premise was basically a group of serial killer monsters running around raising the body count by the dozens every episode? Out of every single season of Kamen Rider I have watched Kuuga is by far the darkest entry in the series. It does not hold back about the reality of monsters attacking a city. It was that touch of realism that really solidified it as my favorite Kamen Rider season.

The story features a protagonist that transforms into a costumed figure and fights an evil organization bent on global conquest. This is so stick Tokusatsu that the fact that you don't realize it means you need to head over to /m/ and start lurking.

Gore, violence, and tone have nothing to do with something is or isn't toku. The theme of "transforming costumed hero" is a core Tennant of non Kaiju toku.

Oh I wasn't trying to say that. In fact OOO is what got me into the franchise to begin with and what I have seen over you he has really impressed me but I refuse to watch TV Nihon so I'm kind of stuck at the moment.

I do need to watch blade though. Agito also had some good themes, but it was so poorly written and paced.

Well, it's a backstory, so it doesn't really feel like it. The hero either doesn't really care about that stuff or, in case of the second main character, is like a cruel parody of those heroes. Most of the time they fight not the organisation but either "ordinary" troublemakers or a renegade cell of that organisation. Most of the ordinary "monsters" are content with living normal human lives and even their leader spent a lot of time working as a bartender and helping ordinary players by distributing that power neutralising drug. They are more like another society than an evil organisation. As for goals, all I remember is the Leader wanting to evolve further. Aside from them, the next big villains are a gigantic business company and some drama king (Haitani), which is a case in a lot of works.

The thing I liked about that series was the overall mystery and much like Kuuga, it had a very nice Side cast. But the problem was it dragged on for way too long and the payout for certain plot lines wasn't nearly as impactful as they were in kuuga.

You can use that man as sort of The Logical/realistic take on the usual Toku formula. The evil organization is a corporation that employs real and effective assassin's as opposed to just gimmicky ones (how many scorpion themed assassin's fail in fiction I wonder.) Zetman himself is incredibly jaded which fits the notion that he's been fighting his while life. And someone who is willing to fight monsters, while also being experimented in like Zetman's counterpart is going to be a fucked up individual which shows.

It's a good spin on an old idea.
