Because Akito is garbage.

Code Geass is so great because of Lelouch being an absolute mad man at all times and the show being amazingly stylish. It also thrives on its wonderful cast of loveable characters.

Akito has none of that. It does have some pretty crazy shit happen at some points, especially the last movie going total mind-fuck near the end, but that wasn't enough to save it. It could've been saved with a decent cast, but the entire lineup is just completely lacking in every way, especially the main girl and Akito.

I unironically think that Akito is better. Everything set in Europe is better in default

As a Code Geass fan that caught the tail end of the Code Geass wars in 2009, I haven't watched Akito nor do I ever plan to even watch more than the .gifs or webbums you people post of it. We in the business call it beating a dead horse.

Because Akito had shitty, awful release schedule due to Sunrise working on Unicorn and..some other gundam, forget which, at the same time which kept putting Akito on the backburner.

Also the pacing was pretty shoddy. There were too many characters jockeying against each other for screen time. It feels like they were sort of stuffing a grab-bag of ideas into Akito instead of picking any one and fully fleshing it out. At war with Russian Britannia? Okay. Don't distract me with the fairly undeveloped bits about General Smiley with his mysterious hyperdimensional Geass Order's representative Purple CC. It was enough to know the European Union collapsed under Jesuszaku's offensives because the bankers were out of touch corrupt assholes who drove Europa to collapse and to fall to Suzaku's FLAWLESS VICTORIES.

The mechas were sort of neat, though. They broke from the big clunky knightmares of s1 just as much as the flying gundam knightmares of r2 did, though, but at least spidertanks and centaur were interedastin.

Oh, and the final ova just blew ass. "Everybody dies, but then time resets" is never good writing.

I hope to see those fucking gypsies show up in the third season.

Akito was just something the guy who was funding the series wanted to inject new blood into the Geass series so that it wouldn't be dry. That why he brought in new people to do Akito so that fresh ideas could be added to Geass.

How successful that was depends on how you think the fan-base receive the show and what the creators of Geass decide to do next. I think some ideas in Akito was cool like the space-time administer character, but the scale wasn't enough to explore such ideas fully. I didn't hate the characters in Akito I just believe more time was needed to fully develop them.

I doubt those ideas are sticking around. Most of the science-y shit felt out of place in Geass to me and also had Akane (the Akito director)'s fingerprints all over it (as did a lot of the melodrama), so I suspect it was just him being given free reign on the sidestory and won't be integrated into the mainline stuff.
