Yes, but Subaru still can restart things and make it right, making him achieve what he wants in the end. As I said, he overall enjoys his new life more than his old one. The only way his life would be worse than the other is if there was no way to escape his suffering and he just kept going through loops and dying (similar to Homura), but that's not the case. Everyone else that's listed just has to accept what happens and move on. Their friends and family die, people betray them, they suffer awful injuries and there isn't anything they can do about it. The only one who can is Homura and hers is a lot more complicated than that. So yes, he suffers, but I'd say he wouldn't trade his current life for his old one.

A number of things regarding that is infalliable you can't make Roswaal not betray you nor can you not make Satella move checkpoints to your will. If we are also going to take the third trial into consideration we've already set ourselves for a man who tries to change but cannot defy fate. The gospel may be wrong, but the third trial definitely isn't as lines from those trials are being said in further arcs, we are quite literally seeing a man who is a puppet on strings. Also to expect a happy ending in Re:Zero is being really optimistic.
