If we get more music as they have promised, then I am happy. I am not sure what they will do about the plot though, as I thought that FLCL wrapped itself up fine.

To be as good or better it will need:

>Same loose "story" and theme
>Same voices in English and in Japanese

What it will likely have:

>Serious story or retelling of previous story and theme that takes away the mystique the original had
>More than one different voice actor
>Nostalgia will blind anyone from having a credible opinion one way or the other

If I were to rate how optimistic I am about this series from a 1-10 I would say I'm at a 2. They had the balls to announce it is going to happen, so I wonder if they'll have the ability to back it up.

Pillows are coming back, Production I.G. is doing it, it's banked by a Murrican company, set to air in 2018. Haruko is returning but the MC will be a new person. A girl, if I remember correctly.

If anything they'll ruin it by trying too hard to capture the feel of the original without regard for what made it great. Also, there will be yuri shipping, and it will be awful.

Those are the main ones, but they really all fall under the umbrella of coming of age, and realising that it's okay to be a kid. Naota doesn't take the bitter drink in the end because he realising he doesn't have to posture and act like an adult to be mature. Major Amaro was hugely obsessed with seeming mature, but he was the most immature character in the whole cast.
Basically if you act like a fool (kid) you'll be cool (adult), but if you try to act cool, you'll just be a fool.
