It's too cumbersome. They're huge, they need special players that aren't even made more as a novelty, they're annoying to rewind, the quality is shit, and they only have a capacity of like 4 hours per tape.

+ Half of what got released on it is exclusive to VHS because it was never re-released
+ Spines are Thick enough for cool art
+ Fairly hardy & tough to break

Negatives

- Not as clear as Laserdisc or DVD
- Most VCRs damage the tapes as they play, degrade them each time you play them
- Stored as Composite, so you can't make them sharper outside of using some comb filters

? - Slowly dying due to the rotation of the earth? Supposedly slowly demagnetizing over time.
? Others say megnetic tape is the best storage medium next to punch cards

Slayers is one of those TV series like Legend of the Galactic heroes where owning it on VHS is acceptable. Why? Because it's NEVER going to have a Blu-Ray remaster. They lost the master tapes so the only blu-ray versions they could do were the movie & OVAs. I don't think the Rurouni Kenshin TV series is ever getting remastered either for the same reason.

Dub sounds fine to me. It's a little dry, but it's better than I thought it would be. Is this anime "Airbats" any good by the way? This is a weird feeling getting anime previews off a VHS & then asking modern /a/ on the Internet about it. Good to see my VCR still works at least.

First off it's laser rot, & second, that only affects shitty laserdiscs from certain factories. AVD's gunsmith cats laserdiscs for example all suffer from laser rot, but the Japanese versions don't.
