Anime? On my VHS? It's more likely than you think.
Noise? On your anime? It's more likely than you think.
>>156751986
Some anime deserves VHS. I got a VHS recorder and made me up some lain VHS tapes and watch them on an old crt thats lying around. Nothing is more comfy than that
Will VHS be a forgotten media made redundant by BD discs and digital files or do you think it has value on a collector's aspect like vinyl does with music?
>>156753288
Nope. Unlike vinyl, the quality is objectively worse
>>156753121
I agree anon. Lain on VHS is objectively the best.
>>156753346
I've noticed people have tried to make it chic or fashionable, VHS, but you're right. I don't think it has any legit staying power even as a fashion accessory.
>>156753740
It's too cumbersome. They're huge, they need special players that aren't even made more as a novelty, they're annoying to rewind, the quality is shit, and they only have a capacity of like 4 hours per tape.
>>156753608
>Implying
>>156755345
>4 hours
You have a VCR capable of playing (let alone recording) tapes in LP?
Post moar physical anime collections!
>>156755345
>4 hours per tape
Fucking plebs, that's what you get for not adopting the superior system, Video 2000. Not only could you use BOTH sides of the cassettes (yes, they had two sides, like a MC), you could also activate long play, thus doubling the capacity, which gave you 16 fucking hours per cassette.
But no, porn adopted VHS so everybody went with that, fucking degenerate.
>>156753121
I actually wanted to make up some custom VHS tapes for some 80s anime, maybe Bubblegum Crisis. The BDs look awesome but I love that crappy VHS quality for some reason.
>>156753288
VHS Pros
+ Half of what got released on it is exclusive to VHS because it was never re-released
+ Spines are Thick enough for cool art
+ Fairly hardy & tough to break
Negatives
- Not as clear as Laserdisc or DVD
- Most VCRs damage the tapes as they play, degrade them each time you play them
- Stored as Composite, so you can't make them sharper outside of using some comb filters
? - Slowly dying due to the rotation of the earth? Supposedly slowly demagnetizing over time.
? Others say megnetic tape is the best storage medium next to punch cards
>>156757010
Its really nice. My only worry with doing it is that my vhs player will give out. They all seem to be coming to the end of their life
>>156755345
>they're annoying to rewind
You couldn't be any more wrong.
>>156751986
I wanna own a official copy of gunsmith cats but the dvds are over priced. So subbed vhs is my only option, im looking forward to watching a subbed vhs.
>>156757186
Slayers is one of those TV series like Legend of the Galactic heroes where owning it on VHS is acceptable. Why? Because it's NEVER going to have a Blu-Ray remaster. They lost the master tapes so the only blu-ray versions they could do were the movie & OVAs. I don't think the Rurouni Kenshin TV series is ever getting remastered either for the same reason.
>>156757247
Clarification: LOTGH did have a blu-ray, but they had to re-draw large portions of it because they didn't have the original master tapes anymore.
>>156757328
I legitimately hate the re-draws because they ruin the aesthetic consistency of the show. Any good fansubs of the original?
>>156757328
Some of it was redrawn because the original art was rife with QUALITY.
>>156757422
>Bakabt down
>Nyaa permanently down
>Everywhere else that might have it hosted are private trackers
I don't know what to tell you. No idea where you would find the Laserdisc version outside of streaming sites.
>>156757437
Yes but it's consistent quality. I would rather watch the original than have these jarring redraws. The quality gives it character.
>>156757483
>Bakabt down
Only for, like, a day or two. Not that it matters, I think they only have the re-drawn version.
>>156757186
kill
>>156757186
Woah. I'm jealous anon.
>>156757145
>$56 for the DVD version
>or $7.59 for the VHS tape
I own the VHS tape with all 3 OVA episodes on it & unless the DVD version is 3X as sharp then I don't see why it's so expensive. shit needs a remaster like Riding Bean.
>>156757515
At least the movie is pretty in BD
>>156757627
It's cropped from 4:3 to 16:9, meaning you lose like 25% of the image on the top & bottom. It's shit.
>>156757645
Why can't anime fans have nice things?
>>156757592
If the dub is cheaper is it worth it or should I get subbed

Those are some ancient fansubs right there
>>156757869
Why not both?
It's still cheaper than the DVD.

Good thing hybrid players are cheap.

I didn't expect there to be a functioning mirrored website this soon after nyaa died
>>156758278
Life finds a way.
Just wait for sadpanda to die next week. There will be a clone up in hours, you dont mess with an autists hentai collection.
>>156758011
Still DaBest
>>156758278
it has been alive for a while, dunno why /a/ isn't telling everyone high and low, the seeders need to keep the torrents alive, and everyone is just sitting on the info because they don't wanna be called spoonfeeders, and muh XDCC that I use exclusively but oh wait it's actually shit for older things or specific format rips like LoGH in DVD
>>156757870
>>156758011
Is central good? I'll download it now if it is
>>156751986
I took me a while to figure out why these tapes were floating.

>Go get my Gunsmith Cats tape to see if the dub is ok
>All these previews for anime I've never heard of
>Physically start up my VCR & use the Jog Dial to freeze frame any part of the tape I want
Dub sounds fine to me. It's a little dry, but it's better than I thought it would be. Is this anime "Airbats" any good by the way? This is a weird feeling getting anime previews off a VHS & then asking modern /a/ on the Internet about it. Good to see my VCR still works at least.
>only anime I have on VHS still is first 3 eps of cardcaptors
>Its not even the original 3 due to localization bullshit
At least it looks comfy
>mfw I still have a VHS of the Digimon Dark Masters saga recorded fromFox Kids
>>156753346
You do realize that vinyl quality is worse than cd too, right?
>>156751986
Hey, are you my buddy Dan who dated my older sister and got me into anime? Collection looks sort of similar.
>>156758480
Very cool. Also nice crt
>>156758480
>freeze frame
Unless you have a VCR with a clutch for the read head in addition to the frame buffer, you're ruining your tape.
still got my old DBZ tapes. but man the space VHS takes up is too much. the spece of one tape can be the storage for the whole series on DVDs.
>>156755365
incoming bitrot
>>156758605
Thanks. Gotta play VHS on a good ol Tube. My HDTV doesn't even have composite in the back so I couldn't play it on anything modern I have if I tried.
>>156758631
It's a pro deck made for tape editing with a built in time base corrector. If that's what you mean by a frame buffer I'm pretty sure it's fine.
>>156758798
First off it's laser rot, & second, that only affects shitty laserdiscs from certain factories. AVD's gunsmith cats laserdiscs for example all suffer from laser rot, but the Japanese versions don't.
>the you threw put two boxes worth of bootleg animus VHS years ago because you didnt have the space
>>156759101
>Too poor to own VHS tapes
How is that even possible? I've got the feeling you were just too lazy to setup some shelving.
Anyone have any experience watching anime on betamax or was that not a thing?
>>156758387
I see the torrents are still active, I'm getting like 2MiB/s on the logh dvd torrents.
Are there any BD releases of old anime that isn't dog shit?
>>156759355
they're alive as long as the seeders keep it that way, which is why it's important to ge the word out that the torrents are still alive
>>156759339
Beta wasn't around for as long as VHS & ended up being mostly for TV stations in the end. I don't think they released many (if any) anime on Beta. Laserdisc was the medium of choice for anime.
>>156759355
we have /v/ to thank for that.
>>156759396
Outlaw Star?
>>156759441
>we have /v/ to thank for that
What does /v/ have to do with it?

Someone on /v/ backed up all the magnet links I think. It was around 300mbs of magnets.

I thought it was someone on /g/.
>>156758480
Airbeats becomes a generic romance but is fun nevertheless
>>156759648
The DVD of Airbats is over $50 too. I guess those early 2000s ADV dvds are rare.

Jeez this is badass
>>156759396
Tons of stuff. You just aren't looking.
