Hibike had some very good characters (Kumiko and Asuka) but failed to invest the viewer in most of the side characters that they spent so much time on, and the yuri pandering pleased no one (/u/fags angry that it was bait, others angry that Shoe had the personality of a wet rag) while distracting from the show. K-On stuck to a small cast slowly developed over three cour, avoided melodrama, and was far more endearing for it.

I like cute girl SOL, but i K-on just doesn't appeal to me, i did enjoy hibke for its drama and overall production, of course there is no debate in which one is more mature but that doesn't really matter considering anime rated MA-15 can still be full of moments that make it feel like its for children.
