There are two flash forwards. The story is 100% concluded in a narrative sense. The first chapter establishes what they're like when they're older in school. The series shows how they got to know each other and chroniclles their prime bully bullee era and the second flash forward showed their marriage and child. The rest of the series has returned to explain how it all gets to that stage. It's not a will they won't they. It's a how they, why they.

Also the fun little innocent back and forth would be like Tonari No Seki if you took out the romance, so to me the episodic shit is fine on its own.

If you would tell an american about your middleschool they would have something entirely different in mind, hence you can't translate it in that fashion. There is no equivalent, you can just say that our mittlerer bildungsabschluss emphasis grade 5 till 10 with an optional additional 3 years which can be done at the same fucking """middleschool""" like you would call it.

We have no official cleaning duty principle in our country. In japan that shit is officially set by the goverment and every school needs to follow it. Just because your school had it as a rule doesn't make it a nation wide requirement.
