My honest opinion?

It's kind of a turdball of a story.

But..this always gets to me.

you can see how the fame of astro boy and all his old work really blows his ego up, the whole movie felt like "this is why i am better than your favorite animator"

but if his son did it 50% of the movie would be really dramatic stills

Fritz Lang did it better

Love the animation, and the end part was pretty damn great. The story is pretty nonsensical at times and feels like a bunch of scenes thrown together instead of a cohesive story. It also ran on a bit too long and got boring.

It's ok, nothing special.

why does Rintaro get so much shit? That story about the ghost train or dagger of kamui are easily some of his best directed stuff

I watched the interwar original and it was visually astounding.
How is the anime remake?

I saw it in the theater when it came out. I wanted to like it. Saw it one more time when it came out on video - still wanted to like it.

Never bothered watching it again but remember I didn't care. I don't remember the story at all, or anything about it - just that I wouldn't bother watching it again because it was at best mediocre and wanting to like it didn't save it from me forgetting about it completely.
