I'm really loving Jobin so far. The difference in the usual Jojo villain with the (current) main antagonist being on the back foot, more reserved and generally on a lower power level. I dig his design too and I like his stupid pretentious quotes/speeches. He does feel like an obnoxious university student thinking he is so much further in the world than he actually is. It's a nice contrast to Gappy (And Kirafumi by extension) who has painful lives and couldn't forget things. Josefumi (And Gappy) ends up taking responsibility whereas Jobin would rather bury it. They work asa nice contrast to each other, even if he doesn't end up the Main Antag at the end, he will be nice as a rival.

Araki has a mentality behind Jonathan's design that there was nothing ever iconic to him. He just had a general design with short, dark hair and greenish eyes. No iconic hair like Goku, no iconic outfit like Ken, no facial markings like Naruto. He's very similar to how simple Ichigo's design is

Really, if Araki had revealed the reason Diavolo buried his mother, I could skip this whole conversation I get to have with the hundreds of people who read something literally and then turn around and put no abstract thought into it.
Everything you people complain about is intended and the whole idea is that Diavolo has worked to destroy all the details of his past to the point where his backstory is almost like a folk tale.

Things get even more mysterious when you try to consider who Doppio is. I myself also entertain the idea that Diavolo may have had Epitaph from birth and foresaw his mother killing him or something.
Diavolo runs off to Egypt with an excavation team to make money, uncovers the arrows and with them more power. He sells a bunch of them to a witch in order to gain funds to start mafia empire with, and goes unchecked for years until he controls Italy. The idea being that his influence can only expand.
He's literally supposed to be Araki's antichrist devil character

Tbqh since we got one arc from Diavolo's POV and it was revealed that Dop=Bosu so quickly, the 'mystery' wasn't cutting it anymore. He should have been elaborated on more at that point, I wouldn't even mind the curbstomp finale then, because the fortune teller says that as long as the secret of having two personalities remains with him he will never fall.
Another arc from his POV giving context to his split personality and becoming a crimefag would have been beneficial since they were the most important parts of his character. And he was in his hometown so it'd be the perfect time to place Diavolo having flashbacks and showing off his paranoid tendencies.

Nice read. I wish we knew more facts about part 5 but the truth seems obscured by bad scans & possibly poor translations- for a part that's so popular it seems strange that it's the one most lacking in basic visibility & legibility.

For now we have to work with the possibility that facts about Diavolo aren't really important to the story and that he's meant to be both obstacle & parallel to the protagonists. An easy example of this can be found in the White Album fight: on the surface it's a long winded set up to a fellatio joke but also contests Giorno & Mista's ambition against a freezing stagnation which they overcome through teamwork and determination.

My humble theory is that Giorno & Diavolo are two sides of the same child abuse coin, that Diavolo is the paranoia, manic, violent and unhinged side; which we see Vampire Dio had suffered with as well- and Giorno is what happens when someone steps in and acts as a fatherly figure.

If I had to guess; I'd say that Doppio was created by Bossu as an ideal and innocent version of himself; the child he never got to be.

It seems more likely than Doppio being the host and creating Diavolo for protection; only because it's not treated as such in the manga.
