ITT: Anime you could show your dad.
all if them if he is sufficiently ``hip'' and ``with it''
>>156669120
Stuff like Monster and Space Brothers. My dad doesn't like anything outlandish
None
My dad and I used to watch big o and DBZ when they first aired.
I bought him a big o replica he keeps in his room two Christmas ago. He watched pretty much whatever was on toonami back in 1996.
>>156669120
Me and my dad watched Burst Angel together when i was 12, it was basedi have loved yuri since then
my dad and I watched ping pong together when it aired. i reckon he probably could be persuaded to watch some anime that aren't too heavily stylized in the usual anime manner
>>156669747
Is he dead?
Area 88. We watched it together.

You changed /a/
Katanagatari, Psycho-Pass.
>>156669120
As much as I love my dad I don't think I'd be able to watch Hokuto no Ken with him without it being awkward.
>>156672846
do you really want to show your dad crying and suffering?
Probably nothing. It would have to be some mature but without anything sexual, something with a simple plot, but nothing too philosophical and he would ultimately lose interest because he thinks cartoons are for children and he hasn't expend any time with me in 20 years, why start now?
Don't want to watch some gay shit like Hokuto, what the fuck!?
We can watch something that's fun and makes us feel like we belong in jail.
>>156673143

wew, how can someone packing such a thing be a faggot, jesus christ
>>156673374
I just asked him if wanted to see a movie and said he was busy. He was literally just reading the news paper.
It can't be helped.
My dad liked as he called it "The Darling Show" aka Urusei Yatsura. He also liked Gunbuster and 0080 War in the Pocket. I bet he'd laugh his ass off at JoJo.
>>156669120
He's a bigger anime autist than I am.
>>156669120
My dad was a hardcore /m/fag. He used to buy chogokin shirts and would even wear them to church.
I still have the birthday present I was supposed to give him stored away.

>>156669120
wanted to watch haibane renmei with my dad once but he refused ! he thinks anime is for Psychologically complex people
>>156673742
>My dad was a hardcore /m/fag
My father had an entire room in the house dedicated to his mecha and transformers collection, which consisted of over 3000 figurines.
>>156669120
The only anime that my dad could appreciate is Lupin III. In my country in the 70's and 80's had an enormous success
>>156673882
That sounds amazing anon. Did you also end up liking mecha too then?
>>156669120
Maybe Battle Programmer Shirase if it didn't have the loli stuff and if he was still alive
>>156674055
I like some mecha but not nearly as much as he does.Haven't seen him in half a decade but we still talk online, he watches a lot of SoL and mahou shoujo stuff, it makes up a fifth of his figurine collection now
My dad's a big Speed Racer fan. We watched Osomatsu-san together, he read the originals as well when they were coming out here. He had Cowboy Bebop (including the movie) all in VHS. I blame him for dragging me into this hellhole.
>>156669120
My dad is boring as fuck when it comes to any kind of film that isn't some cold war art house or The Midsomer Murders.
But he'd probably find some enjoyment in some of the Miyazaki films. Pretty sure he's even seen Spirited Away.
I have the kind of parents that have no interest in anything but the things they did for several decades already. The last hobby my mother picked up were mobile games.
>>156669120
He enjoys cowboy bebop and gantz.
>>156669120
One Piece Film Z is a dad movie
I showed my older normalfag brainlet sister Death Note and she enjoyed it. But she only agreed to watch anime if I watched it with her so it goes without saying that she never watched anime again.
I recall my father telling me something about dangerous japanese cartoons some 20 years ago. Why didn't I listen. He was just retelling me some yellow articles that followed Pokemon airing on our TV, but still
>>156673657
Ouch, i support you anon
>tfw my father was an autist and made me sit down and watch Evangelion when I was 6 years old
>proceeded to enthusiastically explain what was going on whenever i got confused
>he was genuinely excited to explain evangelion to a six year old
>>156674718
I showed Evangelion to my mother. She said she had nightmares afterwards.
Closest thing to introducing my parents to anime was watching Oldboy and Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance with them. They didn't like the titles, but they enjoyed the movies.

Myself and everyone I knew could hold a controller at that age.
>>156674897
I think he lives in one of those cucked households where they don't let the kids freely play video games.
>>156674897
Well you see some people are retarded.
>>156674762
My mom thinks anime is silly and dislikes Japanese culture.
Monster Musume. Just to prove to my dad that marrying mom wasn't his biggest mistake.
My dad is way to square for something as cool with the kidz as animé.
But my mom would probably enjoy quite a bit if she actually bothered watching it. As long as it doesn't take itself too seriously or is overly sexist.
I know she was a bit curious about Afro Samurai and she wanted to see the GitS live action movie.
It doesn't matter, he is in a hospital bed and starts screaming and hallucinating a few times a day
>>156674718I made my innocent niece watch Madoka with me back when it was still airing and nobody knew about the darkness and despairIt scared her away from anime, its a shame because she really liked cardcaptor sakura when I showed it to her too
>>156674998

>>156674827
Your nephew may be retarded. My 6-year-old just beat Paper Mario 64.
I still have the memory of first seeing anime. It was Princess Mononoke when I was 6.
My dad was switching channels until he kinda stopped when he saw some cartoon, thinking I'd like it, at least I think that's why he stopped. Then Ashitaka kills that boar and it melts into bones.
My dad turns to me and says "Tell me if you're scared and I'll change the channel."
Then we watched the rest of the movie.
Always found it fascinating that there were cartoons with adult themes, took me years to figure out what movie I had seen.
Still to this day I think about all the crap anime I've watched and it's all cause my dad decided to watch a japanese cartoon movie with me.
>trying to improve your parents life trough teaching them all kind of new things and showing them new stuff
>they never once develop any self interest to progress on their own
Nah man. I'm literally the best child you could ask for and I seriously tried many things but they are dead inside.
>>156669120
I watched Fate/Zero with him, he really enjoyed it.
Also showed him Baccano, Steins;Gate, most of Yuusa's stuff and all of Kon's works.
He's always been a weeb though, I don't think it counts.
>>156673522
Huge cocks are a bless to both straight and gay boys.
>>156675169
I don't even care if he is retarded. That was several years back and the first time I saw him and was forced to spend time with him. I have not seen him sence then. He told me I was a cool guy at the end of the day though.
>There was a time when Boku no Pico would have been the first response
What happened /a/?
>>156675271
boku no pico isn't a meme anymore, it's reality.
>>156675039
How is she racist?
>>156674998
marry her, sounds like a good girl who makes good choices
>>156675174
Yeah I'm with you on the adult themes stuff. My grandmother used to buy all the Ghibli films on VHS and we'd watch them in the trailer on camping trips. Kiki's Delivery Service is the first I ever saw I think. Grandfather was in the Pacific during WWII and liked Japanese culture in his later years. Had a ton of chopsticks, wall art and bamboo fishing poles. Couple trinkets from men he killed, too.
>>156675271
Ironic weebs took over this meme a long time ago. I think pewdiepie made it popular. Where have you been?
>>156675260
I was just joking. You are a cool guy, anon.
>>156674709
And now he went to sleep.
>>156669120
None.
>>156669120
My grandmother by chance watched Totoro on TV one year after she got a stroke. The time we watched totoro (with commericial breaks) was the longest time I have spend with her after the stroke. That's it when it comes to my family and anime.
>>156675543
But I could show lots of stuff to my mother she liked watching Dragon Ball, City Hunter, Princess Sara, My Annette and things like that with us when we were children.
>>156675139
I can be your daddy, anon.
>>156675550
Even if this is falseflag by moe shitters the message in this is true. Manime is fucking great.
>>156670027
That show was aggressively stupid.
>>156675542

>>156675719
Yes, only real men can appreciate manime. I especially liked bottom left.
>>156675550
What if I like both manime and moeshit?
Why do you lads feel that your fathers are fond of gay pornography?
>>156675550
>Haruhi
Haruhi doesn´t really qualifies as moe, only Mikuru and alt-Nagato qualify.
Haruhi is more sexy than cute.
>>156669120
I watched Hibike S2 with my dad once
Speed Racer or Gatchaman.
They were his favorites as a kid.
>>156675899
I remember finding some weird stuff like that in his porn stash long ago, so I don't know. I will probably never bring it up.
My stepdad watched Ghilbi, and some samurai anime, but nowadays he only watches shitty Korean Dramas
I used to watch Iniyasha and Fullmetal Alchemist with my mother when they aired in my country some years ago. We watch Fullmetal completely but we stop watching Inuyasha when we realized it was fucking stupid.
>>156675885
I enjoyed it too but more for the sports themes since I'm a huge sports anime fan.

If you are vegan you can't grill, that's just the reality of the matter. Do I come to a tofu bar, sit down and eat a hamburger? No I don't.

I watched a lot of animes with my father on TV when I was a kid/teenager.
Dragon Ball / Z / GT
Ranma
Slayers
Urusei Yatsura
Shin-chan
Captain Tsubasa
He enjoyed most of them. And I remember him laughing his ass off with Urusei Yatsura and Shin-chan.
Good old times.Miss him so much
>>156672458
Oh you fucker spoiler that shit!
stop ruining my animes!
There is no possible way my dad and I could ever sit down and watch anime together. He doesn't even know what this stuff is. Fuck, he's hardly even aware animation isn't for kids
What do you guys think he would watch? He's into a lot of classic TV shows like the old Star Trek, Columbo, The Odd Couple, Get Smart, The Munsters, and right now he's been watching Magnum P.I.
As for movies it's stuff like Robin and the 7 Hoods, Tony Rome, Goodfellas, Ben Hur, and a fuckton of old westerns not only with John Wayne and Clint Eastwood, but a lot of guys I just couldn't name that he says were big
Does everyone here have young dads? I've never heard anything like what you guys are talking about in my life

And inmediately backpedal on his opinion once i confess him that they are japaneese cartoons
Wich is weird cuse he loved under the red hood (i think ot was called like that som /co/fag can confirm)
Everything my father doesn't like or disagrees with is stupid, dumb, worthless and if he thinks something is shit then your opinion is invalid and you have shit taste. That's why I can never do anything or watch anything with him in the same room. So, probably nothing.

None, my dad hates cartoons.
>>156679775
That could be said about half of /a/ too.
>>156669120
I did show both of my Christian parents Hataraku Maou-sama once. Do you think that was a mistake?
>>156681721
Did they like it?
>>156681988
Yeah. I think they've learned to be more lenient and divorce fiction and reality than they would have 10 years ago. My mother was confused at the ending, but I explained to her it's a cliffhanger tothe ever non existentS2.
I already had my 66 year old father watch Berserk, Gantz, Black Lagoon, Blue Gender, Watamote, Cowboy Bebop, Ghost Stories, Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust, Lily Cat, Battle Royal High School, Akira, Paprika, Blood: the Last Vampire, Ghost In the Shell, Armitage III, and a handful of Ghibli movies. I also tried to get him to read Vagabond but he lost interest halfway through.

>>156677353
He might like space battleship yamato 2199?
>>156669120
my dad showed me this anime it was pretty funny
I remember going to see the metropolis anime movie with my dad a long time ago in a theatre, A friend of mine came along to but he seemed to enjoy it.
He also used to watch yugioh with me but he would just mostly make fun of it and try to imitate the characters voices.

>>156669120
It's not like I can disappoint him any more than I already have
My dad and mom were pretty into DBZ before I was born. He also likes the normie stuff like OPM, SnK, and Knights of Sidonia.
>>156689930
Visually, it's really stunning. The character movement is so good that the director was accused of rotoscoping (he categorically denies this). Other than that the direction is a little bit amateur with a lot of boring in-between parts, an awkward romance, and repeated drilling of the theme into your head. Climax is one of the most satisfying things I've ever seen though. It's a solid 7 and a recommendation
>>156689763
I think Jin Roh is something you have to be in the mood to appreciate. It's not all that complex or anything but the atmosphere is great on a cold rainy day. Memories of Murder is really good too.

It tends to be a bit boring in my opinion, but it's a very good film. Has some absolutely gorgeous scenes, the soundtrack is very nice, and the action scenes are great despite being few and far in between.
I think it would have benefited from some shorter scenes, but it's still a good film.
>>156674718

None of the ones I like
lupin the third, golgo 13, jin-roh, A.D Police Files.

My dad doesn't believe in reading TV. If I ever got him to watch an anime, it would need to be a dub so he could fall asleep on the couch. Something boring with space or war too.
My mom is a massive weeaboo and Koreaboo though and consumes East Asian media at a rate far outpacing myself.

Pro tip: don't tell you're parents that what you're showing them is an anime before they watch it.
I have distinct memories of being 9 or 10 years old and watching Trigun and Escaflowne together with my deadbeat dad, both of us wearing nothing but our underwear on a couch surrounded by week-old half full chip bags and stacks of pop cans

I don't think he'd be into that kind of stuff. He likes Star Trek because he watched it as a kid, otherwise he doesn't care for those sci-fi adventures, closest I could probably get him to watch would be Cowboy Bebop, but that's in a perfect world. Something like Cowboy Bebop, or Gunsmith Cats without the Cats
Although, he might like some old Japanese movies if I got him to watch them

My parents really like Nippon media, but they're completely fixated on live-action stuff in general. They like jidaigeki, old toku, and j-drama, not so much anime unless it's shown in a theater.
Subbed, of course.
None. All he watches is Fox News all day 24/7 while angrily yelling at the television. Maybe some sports if he's in a good mood.
Also, just the fact that anime is animated would turn him off from watching it, regardless of the series.
Nobody in my family knows I watch anime, and they never will.

I've seen the first live-action. It was very abstract, almost art-house. Very, very dull with poor acting and none of the excellent animation Oshii films are known for of course. It was like Angel's Egg, but if Angel's egg was a live-action noir, haha. I don't recommend. I've also been looking for something with a similar aesthetic to Jin-roh
>>156703183
patrician
>>156705332
Alright, noted. It might be worth looking into more live-action movies but I don't know where to start exactly
My dad is a calm, reserved, and soft-spoken retired FBI intelligence officer who enjoys shows like Star Trek and Blacklist. He usually isn't all that big on high school genres or fantasy, so he isn't really interested in many anime, though I think he somewhat enjoyed FMAB and Moribito. I think he liked Mushishi a lot though.
On the other hand, my mom, who was a technical writer for the government, introduced me to anime. I watch most of my anime with my mom when I am home from college. Her favorites usually involve mysticism, from Natsume Yuujinchou to Mushishi, though her taste varies wildly from there, such as Boku no Hero Academia, Honey and Clover, Konosuba, and FMAB.She likes JoJo too.
>>156704932
Hmm, so there'd have to be an anime with:
>No fanservice
>Nothing supernatural/sci-fi
>Little to no "childish" humor (read: silly)
I don't know your dad's take on action, though I feel like either a gritty show or a SoL without high school may do the trick. I'm a little tired right now, so I can't think of much, though maybe Nodame Cantabile? It's a SoL romance about music college students without a "cutesy" artstyle, with only minor anime shenanigans.
At the risk of being contradictory, Kaiji could be an interesting choice.

I wouldn't know.

>>156706251
Looks like your parents never lived in the 70s/80s.
In the past few years off the top of my head I've watched Baccano and Aldnoah with him, we enjoyed Baccano and had fun making fun of Aldnoah. I'd like to try watching more stuff with him but he spends too much time in his own cave arguing in comment sections.

I'm sure watching any cartoon as an adult is too not-normal for him.
Not like I want to even try.
>>156704932
>he complained there were too many made up words
Pff, my mother stopped after McGonagall turned into a cat but she started browsing fan forums after seeing Darker Than Black because she wanted to find out more after the ending. Oh and she was fangirling about Hei. Sometimes it takes the right push.
Although she isn't THAT obsessed by what's normal and only shares his dislike for fantasy.

>>156706251
My parents are Asian and are both seniors now. They lived in Japan, my older brother was born there. I look through my mom's old Dr. Slump volumes now and again. Manga/anime and their related media have been around for a long fucking time buddy
>>156669120
A while back, my dad got into Drops of God, due to being into wineMy parents make wine in their basement that they make a little money on. I think he got the entire run of the manga.
We watch action movies and TV shows together, but never anime. He isn't even remotely into "nerd" stuff like that. The furthest he'll go is comicbook superhero movies. The only thing we really enjoy doing together is fishing, but we live on opposite sides of the world now, so that doesn't really happen.
>>156706883

My dad liked Macross plus and Armor Hunter Mellowlink as well as Trigun he's big into westerns and war stuff especially if its fighter jet based I even got him to try super robot wars once (he only deployed the VF's from Macross) but he isn't much into anime
My mom on their other hand gives all my series a shot we watched Mazinkaiser Getter robot (new and Armageddon) Char's counter attack , F91 (she said the crossbones vanguard sounded like a bunch of gay pirates) 08th ms team, Dancouga, Big O, Daitarn 3 and Gundam 00 (Dad actually watched the Graham Aker centric episodes he thought it was cool to have one of the better aces be American air force or at least that's what he thought) I'm surprised how much my parents are willing to look into (Ma's Favorite was Dunbine for the "Irish feel' Pa's was Mellowlink)
He enjoys his comics. So he probably watches more than I realize. I know he likes Cowboy Bebop, and I introduced him to Trigun,
My mom saw me rewatching Hunter x Hunter a few years back and said it looked interesting. We watched it together, and she loved it. Now we've watched Deathnote, FMA:B and Legend of the Galactic Heroes and she enjoyed all of them. Anyone have some other suggestions? Preferably something without fanservice, because that would get really awkward.

my dad watched part of ghost in the shell when it would air at midnight on adult swim. He's seen a few episodes and half of the movie. He tried to get into it but he is one of those people that only watched stuff as it airs on TV, he couldn't be bothered to track down a TV guide time it so he could watch the whole franchise in order
My dad is a very cultured person. He has probably seen/read most good pieces of fiction out there. When he found out that i watch anime, he was disappointed as all hell.
He only likes the ghost in the shell movie and miyazaki movies (I on the other hand hate miyazaki movies).
Here are all the show he tried, and his reactions to them:
>He finished Zankyou no Terror
I showed him something like that, so he would see that anime is not all about wizards and giant robots. He didn't like it. He dismissed it as ''just a bunch of super smart boys running around like crazy.''
>He watched first 11 episodes of Monster.
Said that it was shit. A goody two shoes perfect protagonist, chasing down a generic pretty boy psycho. And he didn't like how it showed east Berlin.
>Then he watched 3 episodes of Lain.
''Emotionally manipulative show about a googly-eyed girl you are forced to feel sorry for.''
>He tried out a few episodes of both Ghost in the shell: sac shows.
''The GITS movie was brilliant, this however is garbage, that is made for tv and lacks all the subtle nuances and character of the original.''
>Angels egg
See Lain entry above. He hated it.
>He finished Ping Pong the animation.
''Bunch of crazy nips playing like hell, but it wasn't that bad.''
>Finished both seasons of Kaiji.
''It is an advertisement for gambling. That being said, season 1 was somewhat good. Season 2 on the other hand dragged like hell (At least i can agree with that).''
>He watched ep 1 of SAO for some reason.
''This is what all of your japanese cartoons are! Bunch of mainstream shit, made only for money.''
>Watched first 13 episodes of Evangelion.
''Another emotionaly manipulative show about some whiny dork. Also this is some godzilla tier, giant monster show, that is made for kids. Nothing deep about it, at all.''
>Watched first 12 episodes of Legend of the galactic heroes.
''Bunch of boring space battles, shit music and smart young boys doing the usual anime things.''

>>156669120
My dad loved the fuck out of Death Note. He rewatches the series every few years, and even bothered to watch the live action movies. All dubbed of course.
He really liked Big O as well. Can't think of much else.
My dad used to read One piece with me, when I was little.
He liked it.
Like the stupid shonen parts of the manga, Like when the dude blows himself up and "I'll never die, as people will remember me in their hearts!"
He liked them.

>>156724036
>Let me guess, your dad watched gits and think everything else is shit because of bandwagon.
He doesnt care about reviews, hype, bandwagon etc. He always makes up his own mind about stuff.
>Does he also work at a shit job where everyone hates his gut and he was bullied as a kid so he took up art and literature thinking he was better than them?
No, when he was young, he lived in russia. He studied to become a theater reviewer and became just that. He formed some connections with the cultured people there and even wrote some plays. Then he left Russia. Now he works from home, running his own book translating business. He translates books and publishes them.
>>156724618
>lived in Russia
He got assraped in the army by his sergeant and has aids.
>>156725174
Nope. soviet army was tough, but fair. You left the army, as a better man. Not like that pathetic joke that was the US army, that turns everyone into insane killers.
>>156724618
>Then he left Russia.
Why?
>>156725632
He met his wife to be in Leningrad, and when she finished uni and wanted to go back to her homeland, he went with her.
>>156705741
Your mom has great taste.
>>156674225
>Haven't seen him in half a decade but we still talk online
The fuck
>>156669120
A question, would it be OK if I showed anime with cute girls to my dad? He's a pretty normal, successful and sociable man but had this scene recorded in a VHS (I know because he taped family videos over it leaving only the first 3 seconds of the original recording)
>>156725449
I guess you haven't seen how their troops got treated at Afghanistan and how the morale of the troops drop to shit when people stop eating the propaganda
>muh us army raise only killers
Yeah like how they would grad an entire village right?
Or how the soldier get abused to shit during the first Chechnya war
>>156727681
Or how you americans are parasites and the cause of most of the worlds problems?
>>156705741
Your dad (and you, and your mom, and everyone you know) should watch Legend of Galactic Heroes.
That's exactly what your dad wants.
>>156728092
What you're saying is no different from the people in poor neighborhoods that blame the government over themselves for being poor. Even if you get help from the government you have to keep your house clean or its gonna turn to shit.
>>156706251
Yeah
>>156706323
Yeah, they did. Working and being adults.
I know, boring
Watched Reservoir Chronicles, Vandread, FMA and Zegapain with dad.
He really liked Vandread
>>156704985
> muffled lewd sounds
>>156728233
No, im saying that the world would be a better place, if there was no usa.
>>156710547
Your dad is awesome and a bitch at the same time
>>156728319
Europe would've been overran with Nazis. Russia would of probably ended up slowly being consumed.
so is /a/ full with underaged faggots or you guys are just adults who happens to live with their parents ?
>>156692848
>absolutely hate my life
Probably your own fault. I know people who are the exact opposite and have immense joy being parents.
>>156728481
Some people still live in the same town as their parents.Theres no way you can be this fucking retarded
>>156673486
My dad would probably like the berserk movies.
At least until we get to the eclipse.
>>156728431
Um, Russia kinda rekt the nazis in WWII. All america did was selling weapons to both sides, and then coming in at the last minute, and stealing all the glory.
>>156698885
>He has a low tolerance for weak people, women, children and faggotry.
wew my panties are soaked and I'm not even wearing panties.
>>156728684
>entire western part of europe getting buttfucked
>america given reason to join war
>western europe is now starting to push germans back
>>156728748
>he believes the propaganda
>>156705876
Get him to watch Space Patrol Luluco then
>>156713785
I think nobody got satisfied with the two nukes, especially the nips.
>>156728789
>he's baiting harder and harder
>>156728609
why would any one make a contact with his parents if he doesn't live with them?
>>156710547
Your dad has his head up his own ass.
>>156729056
>>156710547
So your dad browses /a/?
>>156672846
Was staying at my parent's place over Christmas and was watching this when I got up, dad got interested and watched the series with me. He loved the Ecard arc which is good taste since its the best one.
My dad watched initial D with me. He told me after he used to smoke fags with his 240Z back when he was my age.
>TFW he told me turbos are overrated when I bought my MR2 turbo.
>>156729600
Turbos are overrated
>>156728748
>That's what 'muricans truly believe.
>>156729056
Not everyone was sexually abused by their parents like you were.
>>156669120
>guaranteed replies
>>156730838
>own country lies to you to have patrotism
>w-we did it ourselves guys.
He'd probably like Cowboy Bebop and Lupin. He liked Speed Racer as a kid, and he loves cars, so he might like Initial D too.
>>156701894
I tried showing my brother a few shows a while back, now my whole family knows. I should have known he'd say something. They already knew I had taken some Japanese back in college though, so I doubt it was really much of a surprise.
>>156710547
>didn't finish Lain
>didn't finish Eva
Arguably, neither of those get "deep" until you get closer to the end.
>>156723265
It's just one episode. It managed to be at least watchable until the ending, then it completely fell apart.
>>156729600
>used to smoke fags with his 240Z
You should watch Wangan Midnight with him too.
>>156730952
Who are you quoting, retard? No one said so.
>>156731005
You cant even into proper English grammar, Fucking go home esl-kun.
>>156731074
So you acknowledge the absence of arguments on your part, good.
Next time bait harder, retard. 2/10
>>156704819
What is that expression supposed to convey?
>>156704766
Careful not to cut yourself on that edge, son.
>>156704985
What is that?
My dad started watching Dragon Ball Super without me.
>>156732196
Is dbs any good? I never touched anything dragonball related after dbz, should I keep it that way?
>>156707692
You ain't showed him War in the Pocket yet?!
>>156675434
>respecting the culture of the men he killed and who were far more vicious in killing at the time than he
Your granddad was alright.
>>156710547
>he didn't like how it showed east Berlin
How does it show east Berlin and why's he so anal about it?
Not related, but I found JAV on his computer once when I was migrating stuff for him.
>>156710547
>The GITS movie was brilliant
>subtle nuances and character
>>156714660
Area 88 (OVA)?
My dad unironically enjoys watching my hero academia with me
>>156725449
>Not like that pathetic joke that was the US army, that turns everyone into insane killers
So how 'bout that war crime spree on the eastern front?
>>156725789
>her homeland
Where?
>>156701918
are you by any chances hikkineet? because that would explain a lot
>>156729600
My dad walked by as I was watching 1st Stage and started making racist Oriental noises before leaving.
>>156728092
Not most, only half. The other half was contributed by Russia.
>>156728684
>Russia kinda rekt the nazis in WWII
I'd say thank God for Lend-Lease from Murka but then I remember religion gets you gulag'd.
>>156674612
anon I think she wants to reconnect and spend time with you...
>>156677353
He firmly believes cartoons are for children.
I can describe the plot of a movie or anime I want to watch and it will sound badass to him. As soon as I say it's animated he immediately loses interest. He equates anything animated as being for children and therefore not worthy of his time. I think he thinks all anime is like DBZ and all other animated films are like Disney. I can't show him Akira or The Wings of Hoeannimaise because of it.
It's a shame too, since his taste in most film is pretty patrician (only things he doesn't like are romantic shit and animated movies) and we love watching movies together.
>>156677776
This. This so much.
My >>156733127 father is the same way.
I could see him enjoying this if he could stay awake for it.
>>156669120
My dad already is a HnK fan.
>>156694044
You, sir, need to leave.
>>156733127
Literally everyone I know is like this. Tfw having to live a lie and not let anyone know i watch anime
>>156732935
Yeah, he should watch OreImo with her.
>>156675550
>tfw you are a little anime girl now
Just like papa moot wanted
>>156733499
what could possibly go wrong?
>>156729056
You want to talk about it, champ?
>>156669120
>dad ignores me for 31 years
I watched Nodame Cantabile, Tiger & Bunny, Chihayafuru, Moyashimon and Working with my Mom and she became less racist thanks to liking all these shows I guess (She was raised to hate the Japanese without even knowing a single one)
Then I showed Major and Hajime ni Ippo to my Dad and he genuinely liked them too. I tried to show him Monster but he got freaked out because it was too realistic for him. He told me later that if it had been 'real actors' and not cartoon, it would have been a masterpiece. Well I agree with him.
>>156702080
Does anyone have that pic that listed a bunch of CGDCT anime, but sorted by what they do?
Also would show my dad Hinako Note for shits and giggs
>>156669120
I can only imagine he'd be interested in watching the Berserk Golden Age Arc movies, but he might fall asleep through them. It's enough action and violence to keep him entertained without a bunch of complicated plot to remember.
>>156733765
Would he likethe eclipse?
>>156732339
Isn't it the Americans who boiled japanese soldiers skulls to bring them back as souvenirs and didn't that become such a trend that the Military had to forbid it?
And who brought the bayonettes to the Japanese, to begin with?
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_mutilation_of_Japanese_war_dead
My Grandfather was in the Navy at the same time and all he always says about the Japanese is that they were as desperate to survive, as we were. I respect him for that.
>>156674827
My brother tried to play Star Wars Battlefront 2 behind my back at age 3.
>>156732055
Uncontrollable lust brought on by having a demon implanted in her in a ritual of sex and violence she never asked for?I still fap to the "Why won't you let me cum?!" scene every so often.
>>156733893
I think it might confuse him a bit if he weren't paying attention to Griffith's character arc, but I think the violence would keep him entertained. My dad's getting up there in age, even during loud action movies he tends to fall asleep midway through, so imagining him watching all of the GAA movies is kinda laughable to me.
>>156733414
Power levels exist for a reason, son.
Don't let the normies know.
>>156733906
Fair enough.
We treated our prisoners a hell of a lot better though, I know that for a fact.
>>156734161
Ah yeah, so much better.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Japanese_prisoners_of_war_in_World_War_II#/media/File:Bathing_japanese.jpg
>>156689682
Is he dead?
>>156669120
I had a berserk meme on my Facebook account like 5 years ago and my said he looked it up and watched an episode. Don't think he liked it, though.
>>156734422
>allowing him to delouse
Uncivilized!
Oy, is the Russian guy with the cultured dad still around?
>>156736399
Apparently not; he either grew bored with the thread or there are too many yanks for his liking.
>>156737083
Too bad, I got a million questions I could've asked him.
>>156737726
Like what?I have cultured Russian dad too.
>>156737970
How cultured are we talking here?
>>156738243
Ph.D in bioinformatics.
>>156738424
Educated, but that doesn't necessarily mean "cultured" (whatever he meant by that). I'm interested in (among other things) what the other guy's dad considers worthwhile works of fiction.
>>156732291
He seems to think it's pretty good.
>>156705741
Your mom would love Kekkai Sensen. Maybe try spice and wolf?
Serious question. Are all of your dads baby-boomer man's man dickheads who sees their sons as disappointments?
>>156737726
Then track him down and start a correspondence, faggot! The thread's over!
My dad showed me Serial Experiment Lain and Ghost in the Shell when I was like 4 or 5. He was a young dad so he didn't exactly think I would get any of it but they really fucked me up
He liked it until Ed left the Bebop...he wasn't able to handle the pain
>tfw had a dad who used his 80s and early 90s manga collection as a substitute for bedtime stories
>we used to read ranma 1/2 together until i fell asleep
>>156689331
lmao, that picture made me laugh hard.
