Kubo had good ideas and some talent for all intents and purposes. If his editor could have kept him in check and he didn't have to work weekly without getting time to plan things out, then he could have actually made something decent enough. Bleach is the one of the best examples of wasted potential in a Shounen.

His problem is that he doesn't think things through. He may be able to plan far ahead but he can't think ahead 5 chapters which is why he introduced 30+ characters every arc.
